4. LinkedIn: The
recruitment revolution
Professional resume
LinkedIn has transformed the
resume from a traditional (and
somewhat dated) view to one that
is accurate and current.
It‟s more than „what you know‟;
it‟s also „who you know‟.
LinkedIn‟s „Recruiter‟ allows
employers to target potential
employees by keywords and
degrees of contact separation.

8. Have you ever tried to Google yourself?

10. Tip 1: Pump up the volume
The more you fill, the better the result.
Each section you complete in your
LinkedIn profile increases your chance
of being found by recruiters!
Consider:
• Highlighting your major
assignments or projects in the
„Projects‟ or „Education‟ section
• Let people know about you and
your ambitions in the Summary
100% profile completion = increased
search optimisation.

LinkedIn also has a „Improve your profile‟ button which provides guidance on areas of improvement.
11. Skills are the currency in the
recruitment work.
Are you a marketer who can
also take amazing
photographs?
What about a teacher who
can create their own apps?
Having a library of skills lets an
employer know your capabilities
beyond the general scope of a
position.
Tip 2 - Highlight your skills
Show case what you are capable of.
LinkedIn has a great database where you can find „trending‟ and „relatable‟ skills – www.linkedin.com/skills

12. Tip 3: Key word everything!
More key words = better your search results
Employer‟s seek individual‟s based
on particular keywords or phrases.
Fill your profile with keywords
relating to your dream career.
How?
• Explain your duties in more
depth – But again, don‟t lie!
• Add major/key program units
to „courses‟
• Add relatable skills you find in
job advertisements to your
profile – But only if you can do it!

Check out LinkedIn‟s job section and see what employers are want in their next employee!
13. Tip 4: Connect and collaborate
Building the network for the future
It‟s like the old saying:
“it’s not what you know but who you know”
Build your network strengths:
• Join and actively participate groups
relating to your area of expertise or
interests.
• Ask for endorsements from your
colleagues and classmate
• Follow those that make a difference for
you – They can be companies or
people!
• Share content which you find valuable
LinkedIn can also allow you to find fellow peers and trends from your university – www.linkedin.com/alumni
14. Tips from LinkedIn
