Theme: Data: presentations focused on data (be it capture, storage, discovery or new data models such as 3D, temporal data, big data). The aim of this talk is to sum up the standardization efforts (OGC and W3C) in defining 3D web services and models, as well as to show existing implementations to support the discussion. In the past years, numerous open source projects have started to display 3D globes and 3D data on the web. Standardizing web services, data format and representation models is, therefore, a very hot topic. There are in particular ongoing efforts on the OGC side as well as on the W3C side. The OGC has released a draft candidate for a 3D web service W3DS, the ISO X3D standard proposes an XML-based file format for representing 3D computer graphics and the W3C is considering adding X3D rendering into HTML5. Other projects implement their own web services and formats. On the implementation side, Geoserver supports W3DS and X3D, the X3DOM library prototypes a possible implementation of X3D HTML5 integration and last but not least, browsers with WebGL support are fully able to handle the representation of 3D data on the client side. The talk is going to detail the mentioned elements, show demonstrations of existing implementations and try to suggest a possible path into the 3D web for the FOSS4G community.

3D GIS model/2D image registration called much attention in the recent years because of its vast range of potential applications in real and virtual navigation. However, automatic registration remains until now a challenge. This paper presents a methodology for enhancing and complementing a GIS database of buildings with a descriptor of their texture by using information extracted from a reference images. This descriptor is used to locate any other image by searching similar texture in the image. Then the absolute position and orientation of the camera of the new image can be computed if the camera parameters (like focal length) are known. The paper proposes a technique that can be used for achieving the identification of the facade in the photograph, calibrated camera geolocation and discusses the quality of the results.

The visibility estimation has an important impact in many economical and aesthetic fields, a mixed environment which contains madman objects like buildings with relief sol make a challenge for the visibility calculation. This paper presents a new method to solve this problem based on vector GIS data. The use of vector data gives the possibility to calculate the intervisibility, viewshed for mixed environment. The new method could identify the obstacles (relief, buildings identification) which block the visibility for a 3D environment points from observator, the intervisibility impact of a specific building could be calculated

With urban populations expected to double by 2050, an increasingly urgent need exists for implementing sustainable urban design and infrastructure rehabilitation initiatives. Digital 3D models of our urban infrastructure form part of the solution as engineers, architects and geospatial professionals collaborate and share information across the infrastructure lifecycle. This presentation explores the reasons behind developing such a model and examines the convergence of the information and technology needed to make it real such as Smart Infrastructure Modeling (SIM), CAD, GIS and BIM. Demonstrations and plenty of eye-candy will be used to highlight the benefits. The presentation concludes with an examination of today’s trends and future opportunities as they relate to the emerging digital cities phenomena.

ecently, Construction data has evolved from CAD to BIM and BIM becomes more important data used in various fields like facility management and 3D GIS construction, so there is an increasing need for developing technologies that can be effectively used in post-construction steps. There are lots of trials to model and service not only geographical terrain and outdoor but also indoor space. From this perspective, establishment of BIM and GIS interoperable method and development of service platform became the most important core technology. On this research, spatial data linkage model has been devised to smoothly implement the interoperability between two different kinds of data - BIM data and GIS data. The platform basically displays BIM data based on 3D GIS such as WorldWind Java developed by NASA and Google Earth. It is also possible to interactively move in and out the buildings and also to see the outside of the building when a user is inside the building and inside of the building while a user is outside the building. Besides, the platform makes users look up the objects of buildings and properties of objects one by one, floor by floor, by similar properties, or all. Users can also edit the properties of objects and do spatial queries for analysis of the data. This project is co research project of KICT(Korea Institute of Construction Technology) and Gaia3D and working closely together to develop BIM and GIS Interoperability Open-Platform for the integration of BIM and GIS data since 2012 and have developed the system for smooth operation of big size 3D BIM data and GIS data about plenty of buildings in areas or cities, not just one building. Now, core technologies to integrate BIM into GIS are successfully developed and we will keep improving the system step by step. KICT and Gaia3D together have designed and developed BIM and GIS interoperability open-platform based on the spatial data linkage model. Links between BIM data and GIS data enables efficient and seamless management of indoor and outdoor information at the same time and it also could be used for various services such as real estates and AR (Augmented Reality) services. Gaia3D develops 3D facility management system for Antarctic King Sejong science station to efficiently manage the facilities and publicly promote the station using BIM on GIS system with open source GIS software.

Decades after GIS went 3D for the first time, currently there is an enormous hype on creating and managing smart 3D Virtual Cities. Driven by the ongoing integration of BIM, CAD and GIS data, data transformation capabilities are more important than ever before. This presentation will examine basic concepts on 3D Data modelling and data standards like CityGML, Esri’s 3D City Information Model and IFC (Industry Foundation Classes). Examples illustrate how LiDAR data sets can be used to generate terrain models and 3D Data Models in combination with 2D GIS and CAD data. In addition, strategies for sharing and publishing 3D content will be demonstrated. Attendees will get an understanding of how 3D data integration tasks can be solved with FME.

Ruby has a lot of standard libraries from Ruby 1.8. I promote them democratically with GitHub today via default and bundled gems. So, I'm working to extract them for Ruby 3.4 continuously and future versions. It's long journey for me. After that, some versions may suddenly happen LoadError at require when running bundle exec or bin/rails, for example matrix or net-smtp. We need to learn what's difference default/bundled gems with standard libraries. In this presentation, I will introduce what's the difficult to extract bundled gems from default gems and the details of the functionality that Ruby's require and bundle exec with default/bundled gems. You can learn how handle your issue about standard libraries.
