Senior Jason Inghram tied William and Mary's all-time win record for pitchers, getting his 25th with
a complete game as the Tribe beat Northeastern 3-1 Friday at Plumeri Park.
The Tribe (20-25, 10-12) took a large step toward qualifying for the six-team Colonial Athletic
Association tournament as Inghram equaled Whitt Farr's mark. Devin White, who doubled home
WM's first run, laced a two-run single to right field to break an eighth-inning tie.

Sam Sinnen's pitching and Josh Eldridge's four hits propelled host Old Dominion past Louisiana Tech
7-0 in a series opener.
Sinnen pitched seven innings for the Monarchs (24-24, 10-15 Conference USA). He held the Bulldogs
to five hits and struck out seven. Thomas Busbice yielded no hits as he pitched the final two innings.
Louisiana Tech fell to 23-23, 7-17.
Eldridge was 4-for-4 with two RBI and a home run. PJ Higgins, C-USA's second-leading hitter at

the opener of a three-game series at Davenport Field in Charlottesville.

U.Va. starter Connor Jones, a sophomore from Chesapeake, gave the Cavaliers seven solid innings.

Catcher Omar Hotusing went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and designated hitter Kyle Vaas hit a solo homer
and knocked in two runs to lead Norfolk State to a 7-3 home win over Jackson State.
The Spartans won two of three in the series. NSU (26-14) surpassed the 2007 (25-25) and 2008 (25-
24) teams for the most single-season wins in the Spartans' Division I era. The Spartans, who were
playing their regular-season finale Friday, finished with a 15-2 home record, the best in Marty L.
Miller Field history.
Stephen Butt (5-1) allowed two runs, one earned, over five innings to pick up the win. Michael
Parmentier allowed one unearned run in 2 1/3 innings of relief, and Josh Vales pitched 1 2/3
scoreless innings to close out the victory.
2. Men's tennis:
No. 13 seed North Carolina ousted Colonial Athletic Association tournament champion William and
Mary 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Tar Heels earned the right to play Saturday against Mississippi State, which edged Denver 4-3.
UNC won the doubles point with wins of 8-5 and 8-4 on lines 1 and 2, respectively. Jack Murray and
73rd-ranked Brett Clark gave the Tar Heels a 3-0 edge with wins at 4 and 3, respectively. Brayden
Schnur, ranked 11th nationally in singles, clinched the triumph with a 6-1, 7-5 win on line 1 against
Christian Cargill.
Lars DeBoer, on line 5, was the only WM player to take a set. He was trailing Robert Kelly 6-0, 2-6,
1-0 when the match was abandoned since the Tar Heels had clinched it. ...
No. 3 Virginia opened with a 4-0 victory over St. John's in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers (24-3) will
play host to Minnesota in Saturday's second round, while the Red Storm ended 15-9.
The Cavaliers improved to 23-0 at home in the NCAA tournament and extended their nation-leading
home win streak to 45 matches. Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, J.C. Aragone and Alexander Ritschard
provided the victories -- in order -- on lines 4, 6 and 5, respectively, and U.Va. was ahead by a set at
the top three spots.

Women's tennis:
Mississippi ousted Denver 4-1 in an NCAA first-round match on the Miami Hurricanes' courts.
Sophomore Maureen Slattery of Newport News, the Pioneers' No. 1 player, fell 6-4, 6-2 to Julia
Jones, who is ranked 10th in the country.
Slattery and her partner at No. 1 were trailing 7-4 in their doubles pro-set before it was halted since
Ole Miss had taken the doubles point by winning on the other two courts. ...
Mary Washington breezed past Gwynedd-Mercy 5-0 in the NCAA Division III tournament.
The 19th-ranked Eagles (17-7), with Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year Shelby Harris of
Newport News at the top spot, will host the No. 13 Massachusetts Institute of Technology on
Saturday for a berth in the final 16.
Harris joined Kait Brogan for an 8-0 doubles win before scoring a 6-0, 6-1 singles victory. ...
3. Christopher Newport freshman McKinney Harwood was named the Atlantic South Region's Rookie
of the Year.
She played No. 1 all season as the Captains climbed to second in the CAC and 37th in the national
rankings.
Women's lacrosse:
In the NCAA tournament's first round, Virginia ousted Winthrop 18-6 in Charlottesville, but
Southern California beat James Madison 13-10 in Durham, N.C.
U.Va.'s Casey Bocklet had four goals and three assists. Kasey Behr, Kelly Boyd and Liza Blue each
scored three goals. Courtney Swan scored a goal and added three assists.
Penn State defeated Johns Hopkins 14-11 in the day's first game at Klöckner Stadium. The Nittany
Lions and the Cavaliers will play at 4 p.m. Sunday in Charlottesville, with the winner advancing to
next weekend's quarterfinals.
JMU, the Colonial Athletic Association tournament champion, ended its season at 15-5. USC (14-5)
will play No. 3 seed Duke on Sunday.
USC's Madison Michael had game-high totals of nine draw controls and five goals.
Softball:
Hampton won twice Friday but then lost, ending the Pirates' stay in the Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference tournament at Ormond Beach, Fla.
First, HU eliminated Delaware State 7-4 behind three hits and three RBI from Allyson Babinsack and
three hits from Kerissa Burruel.
Then, a pair of home runs helped HU win 7-4 over Savannah State. The Pirates (22-26) were
eliminated with a 5-0 loss to Bethune-Cookman, the team that had beaten them in the initial round.
Taylor McCoy had two hits for HU against Bethune-Cookman. ...
Hofstra upended James Madison 2-1 in a winner-take-all game for the Colonial Athletic Association
tournament championship in Harrisonburg. It was the third game between them in two days.
The Dukes forced the tourney's seventh game by winning 4-3 earlier in the day, but the Pride took
the CAA's automatic bid. In the 4-3 game, sophomore Niki Prince and freshman Megan Good each
hit solo home runs in the first inning for the Dukes, who built a 4-0 lead.
JMU (47-7), which had won 36 games in a row until falling 5-3 to Hofstra on Thursday, is almost
certain to make the NCAA field at-large, but the Dukes' chances of playing a regional at home took a
severe hit. ...
In the NCAA Division III tournament, Virginia Wesleyan began regional play with an 11-1 win
against McDaniel but followed with a 4-0 loss to Salisbury, one of the weekend's 16 regional hosts.
The tournament continues Saturday.

Women's golf:
Ninth-ranked Virginia moved up to fifth place after the second round of play at an NCAA regional in
St. George, Utah. The Cavaliers shot 12-over 296 for a two-day total of 36-over 604.

California leads the 18-team field at
17-over 585. Stanford is second at
596, followed by California and
Arkansas at 602. UNLV is one shot
behind Virginia at 605.
Following Saturday's final round, the
top six teams will advance to the
NCAA championships. Three teams
are tied for seventh place, seven shots
behind U.Va.
Virginia was led during the second
round by sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi,
who shot 1-over 72. Diaz-Yi is in 42nd
place after 36 holes at 14-over 155.
MINOR-LEAGUE BASEBALL:
International League:
Nolan Reimold hit a sacrifice fly to score Paul Janish with the winning run in the 14th inning, giving
the Norfolk Tides a 4-3 victory over Buffalo to start a homestand at Harbor Park.
Both teams are 15-13. The Bisons, Toronto's top farm team, have lost four games in a row.
Janish opened the 14th with a double, advanced to third on Henry Urrutia's flyout and beat the
throw home from center field on Reimold's fly.
The Tides trailed 3-2 in the ninth inning before Urrutia bounced a one-out RBI single over a drawn-in
infield, bringing home Michael Almanzar from the third with the tying run.
Before Friday's game, the parent Baltimore Orioles recalled left-hander T.J. McFarland from Norfolk
to take the roster spot of right-hander Kevin Gausman, who was placed on the disabled list with
right shoulder tendinitis.
Also Friday, the Orioles activated infielder Ryan Flaherty and optioned infielder Rey Navarro to the
Tides.
