System memory configuration is a transparent operation nowadays, something that we all came to expect to just work out of the box. Still, it does happen behind the scenes every single time we boot our computers. This requires the cooperation of hardware components on the mainboard and on memory modules themselves, as well as firmware code to drive these. While it is possible to just let it happen, having a deeper understanding of how it works makes it possible to access valuable information from the operating system at run-time. I will take you through the history of system memory configuration from the mid 70s to now. We will explore the different types of memory modules, how their configuration data is stored and how the firmware can access them. We will see which problems had to be solved along the way and how they were solved. Lastly we will see how Linux supports reading the memory configuration information and what you can do with that information. Jean Delvare

As part of the Google Summer of Code, we tried to add support for SeaBIOS in order to allow guest OSes to be booted directly from PV disk devices rather than from the emulated disk device. SeaBIOS is the BIOS implementation that upstream qemu uses. When the virtual machine is created, SeaBIOS upon initialization uses a generic Xenstore client to communicate with the back end and initialize the front-end block device that will connect to the back end. After the connection is established I/O requests are made via the BIOS int 0x13 interface, guest OSes use the int 0x13 without needing to be aware that PV drivers were used.

We updated the DLA system introductions here, from design, add-on functions, and applications. During the 2018~2019, we developed the tools needed for IC simulation and verification, constructed a quantize-aware & HW-aware training flow, and improved the automation of the verification. We have verified this system through FPGA and solid-state SoC.

This talk my 2009 updates on the progress of doing 10Gbit/s routing on standard hardware running Linux. The results are good, BUT to achieve these results, a lot of tuning is required of hardware queues, MSI interrupts and SMP affinity, together with some (now) submitted patches. I\'ll explain the concept of network hardware queues and why interrupt and SMP tuning is essential. I\'ll present results from different hardware both 10GbE netcards and CPUs (current CPUs under test is AMD phenom and Core i7). Many future challenges still exists, especially in the area of more easy tuning. A high knowledge level about the Linux kernel is required to follow all the details.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) both promise the vision of more flexible and manageable networks, but they also require certain level of programmability in the data plane. Current industry insight holds that programmable processors (both CPUs and NPUs) are of lower performance than their hard-coded counterparts, such as Ethernet chips. In this paper we show that Open Flow (OF) can be used for implementing various network functions, such as routing, and the performance we can get can match the non-OF implementations of the given network function once some bottlenecks are removed. Our prototype can do 100 Gbps (gigabit per second) even with small packets on one Intel blade, reaching a noticeable 110 Mpps packet speed with 64 byte long packets.
