The name of the town of Caneças has its origin in a legend.
One day the King D.Dinis,who was passing through, had
great thirst and asked a woman to bring him water. The
woman did so, and brought him a mug full of fresh water,
which the king enjoyed very much. To show his gratitude
the monarch named this town Caneças.
Caneças has always been a quiet place close to Lisbon so
that the people of Lisbon came here to breathe clean air.
Until the 19th century, Lisbon had great difficulties in their
water supplies, and Caneças used its sources: Fontainhas,
Castanheiros, Piçarras, Passarinhos, Castelo de Vide, Fonte
Velha, Fonte Santa and Fonte do Ouro.
16. Introduction
At the entrance of our school, there are some
machines through which we have to pass our
students’ cards. With them we can book our
meals and buy anything we want at school.
