2. Terrigenous Sediment Terrigenous sediment is sediment that originates on land. It consists primarily of mineral grains that were eroded from continental rocks and transported to the ocean.

3. Biogenous Sediment Biogenous sediment is sediment that is biological in origin. It consists of shells and skeletons of marine animals and algae.

4. Calcareous Ooze Is produced from the calcium carbonate shells of organisms. When calcium carbonate shells slowly sink in the ocean, they begin to dissolve. It has the consistency of thick mud

5. Siliceous Ooze It is composed primarily of the shells of diatoms, single celled algae, radiolarians and single celled animals that have shells made out of silica.

6. Hydrogenous Sediment Hydrogenous sediment consists of minerals that crystalize directly from ocean water through various chemical reactions. Some of the most common types are manganese nodules, calcium carbonates and evaporites.
