The Value of E-Learning with YouTube: Video Sharing for Education By: Sabah Karimi ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Click to see article!
Something to think about… ,[object Object],[object Object],“ However, there is great potential for educators to create effective policies and allow students to participate in a positive and productive way.” The Value of E-Learning with YouTube: Video Sharing for Education By: Sabah Karimi
Personal Reflection… More than anything, I got a greater sense of all of YouTube’s potential in the classroom. The concepts make sense & if applied positively, this media-based tool could absolutely benefit not only me, as an educator, but my students. It’s something new (to the classroom), something fresh, & exciting! I could see students really taking to this way of learning & demonstration. And, I was most taken by the emphasis on the comfort for students. “They are engaging in learning with a multimedia format that they are comfortable and familiar with.” Instead of pressuring students to step out of a comfort zone, there is a good chance that they’ll already be confident with this technology – now, it’ll be a learning tool! “… there is still potential for YouTube and other video sharing sites to play a positive role in education.”
Is Education Ready for YouTube? By: Sara Cardine “ Education is a component of the [YouTube] site that continues to grow…The site is home to a number of student projects, instructional videos and professional development clips.” ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Click to see article!

Personal Reflection… I learned about web-based tools I had never even heard of before! TeacherTube , SchoolTube , and Hotchalk were actually really interesting to learn about it as I played around on their sites. In addition, it was exciting to know that all that “potential” I read about before has actually turned into REALITY! Again, there was mention of the student’s comfort zone when it came to using the Internet in teaching & learning. This is something that makes so much sense to me and somehow I’d never put it all together! As we learn more (as educators) about these tech-savvy tools, the innovative ways of teaching our students can become so much fun (for both of us) and endless!
YouTube in Education? By: Eric Durrand ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],“… video sharing online has great educational potential.” “ YouTube videos can enrich your lessons…and capture students’ imaginations. “
[object Object],[object Object],YouTube in Education? By: Eric Durrand “… a smart usage and supervision of students use can have a positive impact on your students.”
Personal Reflection… This final articles just seems to reiterate what the rest do and again, I can’t deny any of its concepts for they all make sense. Again, how comfortable students are with the Internet, and more than likely YouTube in general, makes it easier for them to transition into this new way of learning. With the advancement of Internet, we would be able to use YouTube inside and outside of the classroom which benefits teachers, students, and parents. I really appreciate this fact and as a teacher, I know I’d utilize this as best as I could so my students couldn’t fall behind and they would be able to stay up to date if they can’t make it to school. No matter if it’s teaching a lesson or sharing a demonstration, they would hopefully have me at their disposal no matter where they are!
Conclusion I have ALWAYS been in love with Powerpoint, but YouTube actually taught me more than I already knew! All those demonstration videos that are mentioned as another reason how we can utilize YouTube in the classroom? I actually used one that taught me how to do a part of THIS presentation. I learned how to put a video from YouTube on Powerpoint on YouTube! And that demonstration video was EXACTLY on point. It couldn’t have been made easy to follow. So, I actually got to undergo my own hands-on experience about the technology I am presenting on and in addition to that exploration, these articles I read taught me even more about all the potential & new Internet sources we can use in the classroom! A point that I saw made in each article was about how comfortable students would be if YouTube was used more as an educational tool & it made perfect sense. What better way to teach someone than with something they probably already know how to use? It just keeps learning more exciting and more importantly, intriguing! The more we can keep our students’ attention on our lessons, the more they won’t just learn because they’re in the classroom, but the more they’ll want to learn!
