1. Skinheads and A BRIEF HISTORY OF OI http://www.last.fm/user/ugbutan69
2. Skinheads are well known for their fanatic love of music. Genres popular among the skins include reggae , dancehall, punk, and a special brand of street music known as oi. Oi is a slang term used in Britain, used to get attention, similar to “hey.” Gary Bushnell, a British socialist journalist who was compiling a compilation CD entitled “Strength through Oi.” The term was a play on a Nazi slogan: “ Strength through Joy.” The name was meant to be ironic, as the majority of Skins and oi fans were not racist (and in Bushnell's case, in fact left wing), but the mainstream media didn't quite get the joke. It didn't help that the photo on the cover was of a British activist who was in jail for racist violence. The name stuck, as did the racist misconception. The majority of Oi bands condemn racism in all forms, and today the word is considered less inflammatory than the term skinhead. It is now considered a legitimate form of music, often grouped in with Punk and Hard-core.

Look at that man lying in the street I don't think that's the place to sleep The government say you can't do that But nobody's saying where's it at You don't care, you don't hear, you don't speak You don't feel it anymore And it's not what you're fighting for Big bad wolf come and knock on my door Big bad wolf didn't like what he saw The government say you can't do that And nobody's saying where's it at You don't care, you don't hear, you don't speak You don't feel it anymore And it's not what you're fighting for Everybody talks about revolution But some of us know You don't care, you don't hear, you don't speak You don't feel it anymore And it's not what you're fighting for Sham 69 “Feel it” http://farm1.static.flickr.com/22/29713652_d509ed2aa4.jpg?v=0

8. Fa Dropkick Murphy's Barroom Hero Face down in the gutter, won't admit defeat though his clothes are soiled and black, he's a big strong man with a child's mind, don't you take his booze away... (hey!) He's been at it for years drinkin balls and beers, he's a hero to most he meets (hey hey hey!) but inside he cries black swolen eyes, this man he sheds no tears. Now his wife and kids sing a different tune as they worry bout their daddy dyin (hey hey hey!) but this arrogant fool breaks every rule it'll be nothin but pride that kills him [chorus] Can he listen no he wont, that's all she wrote, he'll be dead before the daylight shines, but the thoughts and prayers of a million strong might keep this fool from dying. (x2) [chorus] He's a legend in the bar with every scar, fights a thousand bigger men (hey hey hey) now he fights and loses got all the bruises will someone please step in? Cause this Irish fools got a great big heart, he keeps climbing back into the ring (hey hey hey), in the low down circles where he holds his court, this man he once was king... [chorus] This one still goes out to the Boston Punks and Skins, a rowdy bunch indeed... varies from CDs He's a legend in the bar with every scar, fights a thousand bigger men (hey hey hey) now he fights and loses got all the bruises will someone please step in? Cause this Irish fools got a great big heart, he keeps climbing back into the ring (hey hey hey), in the low down circles where he holds his court, this man he once was king... http://www.hell-cat.com/artists/album/75/Do_Or_Die
9. As demonstrated in the previous songs lyrics, Oi often incorporates the values held by Skins and Punks into the music. It is a mix of pride and anger, of camaraderie and disillusionment. It is about friendship and about uniting under a common goal - a better tomorrow for a youth that will not be cast aside any longer. Paired with enthusiastic musicians with catchy refrains, it is not hard to see what attracts the Skins to this type of music. Pride in one's roots, anger at the ruling entities and their lies and empty promises. It is that mix that is the hallmark of the Skinhead movement – http://ca_ska.podomatic.com/
