Hannukah is an eight day Jewish festival that commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and celebrates the miracle of the oil. It begins on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev and is known as the Festival of Lights. The story describes how the Maccabees reclaimed the temple from King Antiochus and only found enough oil to last one day but it burned for eight days. Today Jews celebrate by lighting the menorah each night and giving gifts to commemorate the victory over the Syrians and the miracle of the oil.
