Year 13- Summer work:<br />L/o- To produce an in-depth case study on a genre of the media and how it represents youths over time.<br />By September you will need:<br />A portfolio that contains:<br />Detailed knowledge of your texts- when produced- directors, actor’s etc- what channel<br />Detailed analysis of scenes from your texts and how teenagers are represented.<br />Character profiles for each character being discussed.<br />Links to era- look at what was going on in society with teenagers and why teenagers may have been represented like this.<br />Links to eras- to examine key important events that happened in this era/year.<br />Articles from the interest or newspapers that discuss this text and how teenagers are portrayed. You may ened just to find general articles on teenagers in newspapers.<br />5 quotes from 3 different media text books that discuss teenage representations in the media- you need to reference name of book- who said the quote and what date. (Go to school library or main library)<br />You will need to pick a genre such as:<br />British TV Dramas<br />American TV Dramas<br />Sitcoms and other forms like ‘Gavin and Stacey’<br />Soaps<br />Reality TV<br />Music Industry- looks at youths in the industry- ‘The Streets’ etc<br />Documentaries<br />Magazines<br />Newspapers/News<br />Sketch shows<br />British Films not analysed<br />American Films not analysed<br />Crime Dramas<br />You will need to look at this genre over time: So you will need to look at least 3 texts in depth from different eras- for example: Sitcoms<br />1960’s The Monkeeys<br />1980’s The Young Ones<br />1990’s- Saved by the Bell<br />2000’s- My Family<br />You will need to research these texts in depth and be familiar with all of them and watch clips from U-tube and analyse how teenagers are represented. (Not in Bullet points)<br />Use the context from the eras and look at the news to try and get news articles on teenagers.<br />Your portfolio needs to be in depth- at least 10-12 pages of research and written work.<br />
