Who would be the audience for your media
product and how did you attract them?
My Audience
To show my audience I decided
to create two CV's that show two
people that would be part of my
chosen audience. They are both
within the age range of 16 - 25
and are of each gender. I also
made sure that they both have a
keen interest in music but their
lives don't rotate around music
as although those people are part
of my audience, I also wanted
people who aren't involved in
music but that do like it to be
included. I also wanted to show
that they are both of working
class and working but with lower
class jobs and one is a student. I
also attempted to show in their
interest that although they do
keep up with fashion and gossip
they wouldn't necessarily want it
in a magazine.
My Magazine and How it appealed: Front Cover
 During development I decided on red and blue as a colour scheme for my front
cover as I feel it is non biased towards a particular sex and would help my
magazine appeal to both males and females. I also avoided pink in order to make
sure that it was clear it wasn’t a pop magazine for an extremely young audience.
 I made sure I had a young female on the front cover as this is my audience and
they could relate to this. I also feel that having a woman would mean both
genders would feel comfortable with buying it. She is also in quite an aggressive
pose which also leads away from the young pop magazines and shows it to be
quite mature but still young.
 I used quite bold fonts in order to make it look more youthful and modern and in
turn appealing to a younger audience.
 The use of young pop artists would appeal to young adults as they’re the people
who listen to them. It also keeps the magazine strong to its genre.
 By using the pull quote ‘I can be number one with two kids’ adds an element of
humour which would attract my audience as they would find this humourous.
Also Lily Allen would have been an artist they would have grown up with so that
would also make it appealing.
 My coverlines are all related to music rather than fashion/love which is on most
pop magazines as my audience is slightly more mature than that which is for most
current pop magazines and they are more interested in the music than gossip.
How it appealed:
Contents Page
• Like my Front Cover I have included young artists like Katy Perry and
Beyonce in order to appeal to my young adult audience. I also made
sure I used a mixture of both men and women in order to keep my
mixed gender.
• Like on my cover, my stories themselves were all music related as my
audience were music lovers however none of them were technical as I
didn’t plan that my audience would have any specific music knowledge.
• Using blue with red in the images I kept my house colour scheme while
keeping gender neutral and non biased.
• I used a picture of women as the editors as I feel that a mixed gender
audience would be more inclined to find women more appealing and
be more comfortable with images of women.
• I used a main image of a man as most people who would enter the
contest be women therefore an image of a male would appeal to them
slightly more.
• I continued using many of the same techniques from my front cover
such as modern fonts to also attract a youngish audience.
• Like the front cover I also used humour within the editor letter and the
images alongside it in order to attract a young unisex adult audience.
How it appealed: Double page Spread
• I carried on using bright primary colours on my double page
spread to avoid gender bias in order to appeal to my unisex
audience
• My story, like my other two pages, was very music focused and
less ‘gossipy’ in order to appeal to my music lover audience.
• I did include topics like anorexia as weight is an issue for people
ages 18-24 whatever gender and although this is not directly
linked to music the way my story is linked to a band split it is. It
could be seen as gossipy however I think as its her side of the
story, related to her music and only briefly mentioned; it’s a very
music based article still.
• My model is dressed all in black which removes the ‘girly girl’
image that’s portrayed in most pop magazines in order to appeal
to their young girl audience. I feel this attracts my audience more
as they’re unisex.
• My fonts are different from the front cover and contents however
I did still keep them very modern looking and youthful as well as
visually appealing and interesting in order to attract my
audience.
• I chose to do quite a positive article as my audience
would be interested in the positives rather than
negatives as well as my artist getting back into music.
When making my magazine I kept my audience
constantly in mind and made every decision
consciously thinking about them. I think this is
well reflected in my magazine and its final
outcome. I feel my magazine appeals to its
audience very well mainly due to the house
theme used throughout which included mainly
primary colours and modern neutral fonts. I also
feel like the main topics I included and discussed
as well as avoided helped to attract my audience
as this reflected their likes and dislikes.
