• Stress is the number 1 cause of depression in
college students (Peterson, 2002)
• Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death on
college campuses (Borchard)
• Seung-Hui Cho, Virginia Tech shooter suffered
from major depressive disorder

• Currently CSUMB has no resources other than
the Campus Health Center
• Possible Solutions include peer counseling
centers, stress management techniques,
informative meetings, beck inventory test
6. Synthesis
• Being educated is the first step in
preventing/treating any disorder
• Stress management can reduce the likelihood
of developing depression.
• Peer counseling centers can treat those
suffering from depression
• It is not a money issue
