Hitachi UCP Select for SAP HANA is a com-
prehensive deployment environment for SAP
HANA contained within a single enclosure.
The combination of enterprise-class storage
systems, compute blades and networking
components simplifies deployment and
helps ensure predictable results. The solution
combines Hitachi Compute Blade server
technology and enterprise-class storage,
Hitachi Unified Storage (HUS) to scale up
and Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) to
scale out, with leading network components
from Brocade. With end-to-end hardware
and software integration helping to stream-
line complex tasks, your organization will be
able to unlock answers and enable break-
throughs, faster than ever before.
The scale-up offering is ideal for proof of
concepts, development and test environ-
ments and for running the SAP Business
Suite on SAP HANA. It is offered in 5 con-
figurations, which are noted in Table 1.
To scale out, Hitachi UCP Select for SAP
HANA supports up to 16TB of platform
memory, which makes it ideal for larger
mission-critical SAP HANA implementa-
tions. Table 2 provides complete UCP for
SAP HANA scale-out specifications.

The SAP HANA tailored data center integra-
tion (TDI) program offers another approach
to deploying SAP HANA. With TDI you have
more freedom and flexibility in configuring
the layers for SAP HANA, depending on your

shorten implementation cycles, and enable
improved consumption of hardware innova-
tions to drive the adoption of SAP HANA.
Organizations using VSP and HUS VM can
gain these benefits as both storage sys-
tems are certified for deploying SAP HANA
via the TDI program. By re-using Hitachi
VSP and HUS VM storage systems in the
deployment, organizations can leverage
established operational processes, reducing
capital and operational expenses and miti-
gating risks.
Since we started using the SAP HANA platform, our
cost allocation has become 40 times faster, for example,
and reporting is 5 times quicker. Using this database also
meant we could reduce the volume of stored information
by 3 times while facilitating better information analysis.

on the host. Hitachi UCP Select for SAP
HANA is ideally suited to address those
hefty demands. Delivering future-proof
scalability and investment protection, the
infrastructure allows for easy expansion of
processing and storage to accommodate
additional SAP HANA end users and larger
SAP HANA data volumes.
The processing engine behind Hitachi UCP
Select for SAP HANA is Hitachi Compute
Blade, an enterprise-class blade server
platform equipped with 2 Intel Xeon pro-
cessors E7 family per blade. With features
such as symmetric multiprocessing and
native logical partitioning commonly found
in mainframes, the platform delivers out-
standing, enterprise-class performance.
Highly cost-effective in terms of capital
and operating expenses, Hitachi Compute
Blades integrate network, power, and server
resources into a single, space-efficient, flex-
ible solution. The rack-mountable chassis
houses blade modules and provides for
I/O versatility with internal switches and
connectivity to enterprise solid-state flash
storage and persistent data storage.

Hitachi Compute Blades reduce the risk
of unplanned downtime of the SAP HANA
platform with its sophisticated, built-in
reliability, availability and serviceability
(RAS) features. For reliability, the chassis is
fully redundant, including 2 management
modules for redundancy. Each module
supports an independent management
LAN interface from the data network for
remote and secure management of the
chassis, and blades and components are
hot-swappable.
In terms of storage high availability, backup
and recovery, Hitachi UCP Select for
the SAP HANA scale-out architecture
employs Hitachi NAS Platform (HNAS) and
Symantec NetBackup. Using HNAS as a
staging area provides high speed in system
backups (up to 500 MB/sec) without per-
formance impact to SAP HANA. Hitachi
also supports the SAP HANA Backint API
with Symantec NetBackup. This solution
provides your company with an option to
leverage your existing Symantec backup
infrastructure to protect against data loss
due to failure or corruption.
