7. History:-
Jill Buck who became concerned about the amount of waste
being generated and the use of unsafe pesticides around
playgrounds in the school community decided to take action
and hence wanted to start some new revolution.
After knowing that PBT( Persistent Bioaccumulative Toxins)
are causing hazardous effect on children health realized that
parents and teachers could initiate substantive changes in
environment for sake of protecting children health.
She researched for an environmental education program
but found that there was no such effective programs and
hence started GGI on her kitchen table.
8. The GGI is a grass roots environmental program which unites
parents , teachers and Students to create a culture of
conservation among people and community.
It provides schools simple options and tools to examine
everything from recycling to energy conservation.
By September 2002 ,started its first elementary school and
later the GGI became its nation’s fastest growing fully
comprehensive environmental action plan for schools .
It strives for protecting human health in a community by
promoting environmental stewardship.
It was implemented in 50 states of U.S.A and currently over
1.5 million students&teachers registered in GGI schools

10. 4th International Earth Summit :-
• Purpose of the summit is to bring together
a diverse gathering of community stake
holders from across the globe to plan about
the ways to create a culture of conservation
• A special track of students is added to the
summit program.
• Achievements:-
• It conserved 18,606,000 gallons of water .
• It saved 44 billion BTU’s of energy.(British
Thermal Unit)
