Abstract
Wepresentasimple,highlymodularizednetworkarchi-
tectureforimageclassification.Ournetworkisconstructed
byrepeatingabuildingblockthataggregatesasetoftrans-
formationswiththesametopology.Oursimpledesignre-
sultsinahomogeneous,multi-brancharchitecturethathas
onlyafewhyper-parameterstoset.Thisstrategyexposesa
newdimension,whichwecall“cardinality”(thesizeofthe
setoftransformations),asanessentialfactorinadditionto
thedimensionsofdepthandwidth.OntheImageNet-1K
dataset,weempiricallyshowthatevenundertherestricted
conditionofmaintainingcomplexity,increasingcardinality
isabletoimproveclassificationaccuracy.Moreover,in-
creasingcardinalityismoreeffectivethangoingdeeperor
widerwhenweincreasethecapacity.Ourmodels,named
ResNeXt,arethefoundationsofourentrytotheILSVRC
2016classificationtaskinwhichwesecured2ndplace.
WefurtherinvestigateResNeXtonanImageNet-5Ksetand
theCOCOdetectionset,alsoshowingbetterresultsthan
itsResNetcounterpart.Thecodeandmodelsarepublicly
availableonline1

1.Introduction
Researchonvisualrecognitionisundergoingatransi-
tionfrom“featureengineering”to“networkengineering”
[25,24,44,34,36,38,14].Incontrasttotraditionalhand-
designedfeatures(e.g.,SIFT[29]andHOG[5]),features
learnedbyneuralnetworksfromlarge-scaledata[33]re-
quireminimalhumaninvolvementduringtraining,andcan
betransferredtoavarietyofrecognitiontasks[7,10,28].

inneuralnetworks.Moreover,wearguethatthesimplicity
ofthisrulemayreducetheriskofover-adaptingthehyper-
parameterstoaspecificdataset.TherobustnessofVGG-
netsandResNetshasbeenprovenbyvariousvisualrecog-
nitiontasks[7,10,9,28,31,14]andbynon-visualtasks
involvingspeech[42,30]andlanguage[4,41,20].
UnlikeVGG-nets,thefamilyofInceptionmodels[38,
17,39,37]havedemonstratedthatcarefullydesigned
topologiesareabletoachievecompellingaccuracywithlow
theoreticalcomplexity.TheInceptionmodelshaveevolved
overtime[38,39],butanimportantcommonpropertyis
asplit-transform-mergestrategy.InanInceptionmodule,
theinputissplitintoafewlower-dimensionalembeddings
(by1⇥1convolutions),transformedbyasetofspecialized

【名古屋】中部⼤学⼯学部の藤 教 らは、⼈⼯知能(A
I)の視線の可視化技術を開発した。機 学 ⼿法のディープラ
ーニング( 学 )で⼊⼒画 の認 結果を出す認 機構と、
⼊⼒画 のどの部分に注⽬すべきかを判断するアテンション 得
機構を加え、AIが注視する視線を して正しさを判断する。
⾃動⾞の⾃動運転で 全⾃動運転のレベル4での ⽤を⽬指す。
来、認 機構とアテンション 得機構を同時に処理するとA
Iの判断の正解率が落ちた。直 を にして同時処理し、アテ
ンション 得機構の特 を認 機構にも利⽤した。 学 の最
先 モデルに ⽤した結果AIの注視場所が可視化でき、判断の
正解率が6―7%向上したという。
のAIの多くは判断結果が正しければAIの視線も正しい
とし、本当に正しい場所を⾒て進⾏⽅向や 害物を判断している
か確認できず、⾃動運転の安全性が保証できなかった。
