2.  Mao was born in a peasant family in Hunan, China.
 Mao tried a variety of Western ideologies such as:
liberalism, anarchism, and utopian socialism.
Mao showed early signs of leadership of the Communist
Party.
Mao was one of the twelve founders of the Chinese Communist
Party.
 Mao argued in his 1927 report on the peasant
movement in Hunan, in sidestepping the Marxist and
focus on the urban working class.

3.  Mao demonstrated political ruthlessness during the 1930-1931 Futian
Incident
 Mao’s power eroded during the early 1930s.
 After Communist were forced to leave Jiangxi, Mao was able to restore
his influence by criticizing failed military policies.
 Mao was inaugurated the People’s Republic in 1949
 Mao adopted the design to build modern socialist power.
 Mao stressed the importance of the Soviet model. This
provided a plan for the economy.

4.  Mao developed a successful strategy with both Guomindang
and the Japanese.
 Mao unified the party thinking that a unified organization could survive
and overcome adversaries.
 Mao was determined to have a final say against his most important
opponents.
 Under Mao the party guarded its independence and engaged in
conflict with nationalist allies.


5.  In the spring of 1957 Mao launched the Hundred Flowers movement. This
encouraged the public and intellectuals to criticize the party to facilitate
modification.
 Mao’s Great Leap Forward was driven by the slowdown of the economic
growth. This was also a competitive attitude toward the Soviet Union.
 Mao pictured himself as the “rightist”. When Peng Dehaul criticized the
Great Leap, Mao launched a new attack on “rightist opportunism.”
