Shoe classification
1. Shoe Classification
Name_________________________Date______________Mod_________
Describe the shoes you are wearing. What is your shoe designed to do? Why do people
wear that kind of shoe? Describe the major features of your shoes that would distinguish
your shoe from all the other shoes in the classroom. Write those features in the box
below.
What if your shoes were real, live organisms? How would you classify them? Using the
graphic organizer below, classify your shoe. Hint: Think about it as if it were alive.
What categories would you use? Remember, you want to get more specific as you go
down the chart until you get to ONLY YOUR SHOE!
SHOES
ATHLETIC
CASUAL FORMAL/DRESS
2. Look at your chart. Why did you choose the categories that you did? Did you go for
brand or function? Which would be the most specific?
What other daily objects could you classify in this manner? Pretend those are alive as
well.
SHOE MATING
1. On a separate sheet of paper, draw a final draft of your classification chart. Feel
free to make any changes from your rough draft that you feel are necessary.
2. Then, draw a picture of your shoe next to your chart.
3. Choose a shoe in the class for your shoe to “mate” with. Think about your choice.
Can your shoe mate with any other shoe in the classroom? Think about how real
animals mate. Can hybrids be created? Do the shoes have to stay within their
own family?
4. Copy the classmate’s chart unto your paper and draw a picture of their shoe next
to the chart.
5. Draw a picture of the “kid” from your shoe mating. Think about what it would
look like.
