Holy Family Ex-Students Association - Annual Report 2001 - 2002
1. Dear Member,
It gives me great pleasure to place before you the 2nd Annual Report of our
Association along with the audited Statement of Accounts for the year ended June
30, 2002.
Activities of the Association
The Association was formed on July 6, 1999 and had adopted a Constitution with a
pledge to meet at least once a month. The members of the Association meets on 3rd
Sunday of every month at 11.00 a.m. in the School Library.
Meetings of the Core Committee
In the period under review your Association members met for a record 15 times to
discuss various matters and implement various activities as discussed.
Membership
As at June 30, 2002 your Association had 548 registered members and the drive to
get more and more ex-students registered is on.
Highlights of the Association:
At the last AGM of your Association, Mr. Joe Nathan (1973-74 batch) was elected as
President of the Association. Fr. Francis Swamy, as the Principal of Holy Family High
School, is the Ex-officio member of the Association along with Mrs. Colette D’souza,
as Vice Principal and the Head Mistress as a permanent member of the Core
Committee.

(1) Vocational Guidance Program & Career Counseling – October 7th 2001,
November 5th 2001 and January 27, 2002
Your Association organized a Vocational guidance program on October 7th, 2001in
the school hall. Ms. Shailaja Mulay, a professional Vocational Guidance councilor,
conducted this programme.
The program was a huge success judging by the attendance of parents and the
students of Std. Xth, English and Marathi medium with the speaker giving details on
the choices available for students (both boys & girls) after finishing school. All the
basic faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce, the post-graduation courses, and the

2. Career prospects were covered. This was followed by a question and answer
session where the speaker answered queries from the students and parents. The
speaker also gave information on the Institutes where some of the specialized
courses were available and the minimum qualification criteria required for the same.
Subsequently, at the request of the parents a written Aptitude test was also arranged
for the students in the School premises on November 5th, 2001 based on which a
subsequent final counseling session with the student and the parents was conducted
on January 27, 2002.
(2) Inter School Debate Competition – December 2nd, 2001
Your Association successfully conducted the first Inter School Debate competition on
December 2, 2001. Students from over 6 schools in the Andheri east area
participated in the same. The Rolling Shield was won by the Host school i.e. Holy
Family in the first year of inception. The other schools included Divine Child,
St. Xavier’s- Poonam Nagar, St. John-Marol, and Little Flower, Gundavalli village,
Andheri East.
Your Association would like to make a special mention for the efforts put in by
Mr. Pawan Kumar our Vice President for organizing the event and also sponsoring
the Rolling Trophy. Mr. Ramesh Waghela, our Hon. Treasurer also sponsored the
prizes for the events.
(3) Nutrition Program
Your Association has identified a few students who are not in a position to afford their
daily breakfast and face a lot of health problems in the school. This was also
affecting their studies in the class. As we all know, a good breakfast is very
important for the growing child and to address this problem your Association along
with the school authorities have identified a few students from Std. V and Std. VII
who are now receiving regular healthy morning breakfast which is sponsored by your
Association. This year your Association intends to increase the number of the
beneficiaries of the same to ensure that more and more deserving students get this
benefit.
(4) Jesuits Alumni Association of India (JAAI Milan) – November 23 – 25,
2002
“JAAI Milan” the third All India confederation of the All India Jesuits Alumni
Association was held from November 23 – 25, 2001 at St. Stanislaus High School,
Bandra, Mumbai 400 050 and was hosted by the JAAI West Zone. Over 500
delegates from all over India participated in this conference. Your Association has
also nominated 13 members to participate in this conference.

The Inaugural Ceremony consisted of the Keynote address by Mr. K Kanoi
(President- Federation of JAAI) and included Guest Speakers like Mr. Soli Sorabjee
(Attorney General of India), who gave the Key Note address and Dignitaries such as
3. Mr. Julio Reberio, Mr. Keshub Mahindra, Mr. Goolam Vahanvatti, Cardinal Simon
Pimenta, Justice Saldanha, Mr. Gerson da Cunha and others. All of them passed
out from Jesuits schools and they shared their experience and the role the Jesuits in
moulding their future. All of them mentioned the role Jesuits had played in shaping
their destiny and how proud they felt in claiming the same.
On the second day there was a panel discussion on the role of JAAI with panel
members consisting of Mr. Dileep Padgaonkar (Exec. Managing Editor - TOI), Mr.
Jagdeep Kapoor (MD - Samsika Mktg. Consultant and an Ex- Student of HFHS,
Andheri), Dr Suma Chitnis (Former Vice Chancellor, SNDT Women’s University) and
Ms Shaheen Mistry (Akaanksha) with Mr. Gerson daCunha as the Moderator.
A Vision Exercise, which included Building a Vision and Mission Statement for JAAI
by Mr. Alyque Padamsee was also conducted where he stressed the importance of
the same. There were also case studies and exhibitions by NGO’s like CRY, Dignity
Foundation, Pratham, AGNI who were specially invited at the occasion.

(5) Annual Re-union: February 19th, 2002
As agreed earlier and hosted for the past 2 years, your Association organized the
Annual Alumni Re-union day on February 19th 2002. It was a grand success with
over 600 Ex-students attending the same, some with their spouses.
The highlight of the event was a Live Orchestra and King Momo games followed by
hi-tea snacks and most important of all, the presence of the Ex-Principals, Ex-
teachers and Alumni members from batches as old as 1956. Your Association
decided to felicitate members of the Golden Jubilee (1953 batch) and Silver Jubilee
years (1977 batch), which will be an annual feature of every reunion day.

4. From the feed back received and a number of request from the Ex- Students it
was also decided to hold future Re-union days henceforth on the 2nd Saturday
of February each year, for the convenience of the Members.
Projects that have been conceptulised in the year under review and to be
implemented from year 2002 – 2003.
(1) Academic Coaching Program
Your Association has also decided to conduct an Academic Coaching Program for
the academically weaker students of the school with the assistance of our very own
Shah Sir. This programme will be implemented from the academic year 2002-2003.
The details of the same are being worked out with the school authorities.
(2) Adopt a Child Program
Anand Pejawar introduced the concept of “Adopt a Child” program, which would act
as a solution to the combined nutrition, academic and other problems of needy and
deserving students of your school. Your Association has already received donations
from a number of Ex-students and Teachers who have come forward and adopted
one child at the cost of Rs. 1,200/- per year per child. We look forward towards other
ex-students to come forward and contribute to this noble cause.
Acknowledgements
The Committee would like to place on record the unstinting support given by Fr.
Francis Swamy, Principal, Mrs. Colette, Vice Principal in the execution and
implementation of various activities of the Association throughout the past year.
Your Association would also like to place on record the deep sense of appreciation to
our bankers Corporation Bank, Sunil Decorators, our esteemed donors, volunteers
and all those associated with the association either directly or indirectly and whose
contribution has made the various events of your association a memorable one.
