They include information we cannot record because there is no enough information fo the
entire row and these anomalies maybe reduced by making sure that our raw data is complete
before we start feeding it in our database.

2. Deletion Anomaly
This is caused by elimination of a row or cell and if the deleted section was linked to other
cells this may affect the entire database. It can be collected by use of administrative rights in
the data base such that only responsible persons can delete or edit the database
Update Anomaly
This arises when the same information is recorded in various columns or rows and it may
cause inconsistencies for example if it is the number of offices we can duplicate or triple
them .This can be reduced by ensuring that data is reviewed before being saved and also
deliberate use of filtering tools of the software.

An audit procedure for collecting data for the audit through a program code added to
applications. Embedded audit modules allow the auditor to collect data as the processing is
taking place, rather than at the time of the audit. The auditor should therefore be monitoring
the system in real time and identify the risky areas to concentrate on them. Auditors may not
use this approach because it leads to pre-auditing rather than post-audit. The process may
also deprive the auditor a chance to produce reports which are used to advice the
management.

Data normalization is important because it helps the auditors to identify the weaknesses
in the data base. The importance of auditors being specialist in IT is that they need to
