2. Library’s Online Catalog
• Start by visiting your library’s online catalog.
• For example:
• Go to your library’s website (i.e. www.hooksettlibrary.org)
• Click on the “Search Catalog” button
3. Create a Search
• Below is an example of a search for a favorite author.
• Type in the author’s name “woods, stuart” and “3m”
• Use the “Limit by” dropdown box to select “E-book
(downloadable)”.
• Click on the “Go” button.
4. Save your Search
• Your search results should now be displayed on the screen.
• Click on the “Save Search” button on the left or right hand side
of the screen.
5. Log in to your Account
• If you are not already logged into your account you will be
prompted to do so now.
• Enter your library barcode number (or username if you have
created one already) and password.
• Click on the “Log in” button.
6. Create your Search Settings
• Type a name for your search.
• Type an Email address that will receive the Emails.
• Adjust the other settings to your liking.
• Click on the “Save Search” button.
7. Confirmation Message
• If your search saves successfully you will see the message
below.
• You will now receive Emails about new 3M eBooks that meet
your search criteria.
• If you chose HTML format for your “Email format” you will be
able to click on a link directly from your Email to the library’s
catalog where you can check out or place a request for the
item.
8. Deleting & Editing Searches
• You can delete and edit your searches from the “Saved
Searches” page of your account.
• Or by using the sidebar options
(see below)
9. Additional Uses
• Searches are the way you find out what books and other
resources are in the Library or the GMILCS consortium. You
can search on keywords, titles, authors, publishers, specific
libraries, types of material, and a lot of other specifics.
• Save searches for formats of interest to you (DVDs, Music CDs,
etc.).
• Save searches for your favorite topics of interest and authors.
• For help creating and saving effective searches please speak to
a staff member at your library.
