Education is the social institution whereby the members of the
society are equipped with skills, acquaintance, values, and the
values needed to learn on how to be good, and industrious
members of the society.
In early American society, education was barely formal.
Puritans or currently known as the Massachusetts demanded that
it was the responsibilities of the parents to inform the parents
on how to teach their children on how to read.
The cities were required to have elementary learning
institutions to help children in learning how to read, write, and
learn about religion.
To ensure that there was existence of unity after the
revolutionary war, the textbooks with common spelling and
pronunciation was introduced
The textbooks also had some negative stereotypes of the Native
Americans and some immigrant groups (Nodine, 2016).
The history of education In American Society
Education is described as the social institution whereby the
society teaches it members about the skills, knowledge, norms,
and the values needed to learn on how to be good, and
productive members of the society. In the early American
society, education was hardly formal. During the colonial
period, the Puritans or currently known as the Massachusetts
demanded that it was the responsibilities of the parents to teach
their children on how to read. Large towns were required to
have elementary schools to help children in learning how to
read, write, and learn about religion. The schooling was not
required in he colonies and only 10 percent of the colonial
children from the wealthiest family went to school. Others
became apprentices. To ensure that there was existence of unity
after the revolutionary war, textbooks were written using
common spelling and pronunciation and to make sure that
patriotism and religious beliefs are instilled in students. The
textbooks also had some negative stereotypes of the Native
Americans and some immigrant groups. In 1800s, free and
compulsory education was introduced. Children from all social
classes got the opportunity of getting free and formal education.
The free education was further aimed at promoting national
unity and to educate the immigrants the American values. The
free education also emerged due to the industrialization since
the industrial economy demanded reading, writing, and math
skills as compared to the agricultural economy. The free and
compulsory education was introduced to both primary and
secondary schools. The number of individuals who joined
college was not part of the practice until mid 1900s when few
people started to join colleges and most of these people were
from the fairly wealthy families. After the end of World War II,
there was an increase in the number of people who enrolled for
the college education. At present, many people are joining
colleges than before even though the attendance of the college
is related to the social class.

Majority of the Americans believe that private learning
institutions are capable of delivering the better education as
compared to the public schools.
Private schools are perceived to be having safer environment,
fewer students in the classroom and schools, better teachers,
and more resources.
Americans do care about their schools and are ready to make
improvement.
Americans are balking at some market-based reforms like more
payment to teacher who are working in the fields like math and
science.
Majority of the Americans are undecided concerning the charter
schools and other reform initiatives being put in place.
Americans believe that the most important factor in helping
high school learners to get a good job is through teaching skills
related to the dependability, persistence, and teamwork.
Most parents want selective teacher training programs and that
new teachers should be working a minimum of one year with
certified teachers before manning their own class (Nodine,
2016).

The members of the institution sees the need to ensure that there
is expansion of the high-quality early childhood education
programs.
These people believe that the nation is investing less in the
education of children under the age of 5 as compared to other
nations with low level of enrolment in early education
programs.
The members consider further training for the teachers to help
students improve.
Members believe that there is less early warning system
Therefore, they see the need of making improvement and
expanding the school-based early warning systems
The warning systems should be tied to the evidence-based
interventions for the students who are at risks (Troyer, 2019).

need to increase high quality, college-ready secondary level
instruction that is combined with the comprehensive support
systems.
The school began with the mandatory education law of 1852
According to this law each city as well as town in
Massachusetts was to have public primary school.
The focus of the schools was on teaching children grammar and
basic arithmetic.
Parents had the responsibility of sending children to school for
12 weeks every year until they turn 14 years.
Later the issue of segregation on the basis of raced was
considered unconstitutional.
This made children of all raced to learn along each other in
classroom.
Things have changed from this point and one of the changes is
the growth in the charter schools and change in the students
demographics.
The homeschooling practices is reducing and the classroom are
becoming crowded.
There are fewer school children of age below 18 years with
higher enrolment rates (Troyer, 2019).

The first factors that led to the introduction of education system
was to have children to learn how to write, read, and learn
religion.
After the revolutionary war, education changed ad textbooks
with standardize writing, spelling and pronunciation were
introduced.
It was aimed at promoting unity through promotion of
patriotism and religious beliefs among learners.
Education was later made free and compulsory and this was
prompted by the motive of promoting national unity and
teaching the emigrants the values of the Americans.
The change was also prompted by the industrialization since
there was economic demand for reading, writing, and math skill
than agricultural financial system.
The changes in the education system can also be linked to the
United States recession in early 1980s and the pressure from the
international competition which increased public economic
concerns more so the business leaders.
The change are also linked to the efforts of the prearranged
groups, federal laws, and the court orders which affects the
location of resources, testing of the accommodations, and the
curricular offerings.
The change in education is also associated with the decision of
the officeholders and other policy makers (Mahnken, 2018).
What has caused various institution to change

decision of the officeholders and other policy makers who are
influenced by the media that conveys the information and
shaping the public perceptions.
One important thing that has never changed is concerning the
segregation.
Schools are beginning to re-segregate and this makes students
to be isolated especially the whites and the black.
There is still existence in the academic gap with the number of
whites enrolling more than the blacks.
White students are making the unequal segment of the
individuals register in advanced classes in K-12 schools.

One of the issue of concern is the growing number of learners.
It is important to acknowledge this fact and address the issue of
overcrowding.
The schools in the United States schools are not performing on
the same level due to the lack of adequate resources for some
schools.
It is important to make funding of the schools a priority.
The performance of the learners is also affected by the low
qualified teachers.
It is important to raise the standards of the teachers.
The community are playing important role in the existence and
performance of the learners.
It is important to put the classroom running as well as
curriculum-building decisions in the hands of the community.
The segregation is still an issue of concern in schools.
It is important to have strict regulations that prohibit
discrimination on the basis of race to ensure that there is
comfortable learning environment (Mahnken, 2018).

The participants in the education system of the United States
include the federal and state governments, parents, and the
students.
There are also the presidents and the administrative leadership,
the faculty and the staff, and the community members.
These key participants have their own interest in the success of
the school.
The government through the president and other administrative
leadership help in setting the standards of education through
curriculum.
Parents are responsible for ensuring that they follow the rules
regarding the education by taking children to school.
Parents are also forming part of the team that are involve in the
process of designing the curriculum.
The community members are responsible for creating a learning
environment for the students.
They also form part of the school committees to be the head

The school system of the United States is taking needs of all the
learners.
The school system is attending to the needs of the learners
Learners with mild or severe learning disabilities are attended
to.
The inclusion is important in the current society which is for of
people with diverse culture
It allow all the learners to learn in one classroom without
discriminations.
The passage of the anti-discrimination laws has led to the
expansion in education for the minority groups.
There are large groups of individuals from the minority groups
who are not joining colleges (Gill & Gurparkash, 2019).

The conflict and functional analysis theories explains the trend
in the increase in schooling for the purposes of attaining
employment especially in advanced industrialize society.
The functional theory is based on the idea that educational
needs is giving a reflection of the demands in the improved
skills on job as a result of the technical change.
Conflict theory propose that the employment requirements is
reflecting on the efforts of the competing status groups to
monopolize employment
The monopolization occurs through imposing cultural standards
on the selection process.
In the United States, there is a dynamic educational
requirement.
This has been basically associated with the increase in mobility
opportunities through school system as opposed to the
independent changes in the job structure.
United states is among the top industrialized nation which
demands skills and knowledge from its employers to match the
growing technological demands (Cian & Amann, 2019).

The textbooks also had some negative stereotypes of the Native Americans and some immigrant groups. In 1800s, free and compulsory education was introduced. Children from all social classes got the opportunity of getting free and formal education.
