The simulation is the examination of processes through the use of a theoretical model. It allows processes to be examined under different conditions and different predefined scenarios.
Training Notes Show the same physical model under a couple of different conditions: Change trucks Triangular Distribution of number pallets/trailers Change shifts Change the conditions interactively! Throw dice Histograms Key points: Randomness, sufficient repetition an average will appear. Why is this different to Excel? Sheer numbers of variables. Can check things a spreadsheet can’t do easily. Use common example throughout – compare with same example modelled with Excel.
Training Notes Explain Racking. One slide for each type of racking. Explain “VDI” Important things: Battery Speeds AST Lift heights Goods flows Explain Batch Picking Explain Wave Picking Replenishment Limitation in modelling complicated picking environments. Photos of order pickers, etc.
Use Kick-Off 2008 style presentation
Hand out survey. Run through it, make it clear that questions asked are the same that we to build a simulation. Check understanding of each field Examples: “ What are the types of pallet we use in the UK?” “ What sort of costs are there for employees in France?” Make the point of not having a million things.
