livestock (32,000 million tons of CO2 per year)
 13% due to transportation (cars, planes, ships,
trains)
 Emissions for agriculture projected to increase 80%
by 2050 (1912: 1.5 bill. people vs. 2012: 7 bill. people)

 Methane is 25-100 times more destructive than CO2
on a 20 year time frame
 65% Nitrous oxide emissions (296x more destructive
than CO2 and stays in the atmosphere for 150 years)
 We will exceed our 565 gigatonnes CO2e limit by
2030, all from raising animals

 Leading cause of rainforest destruction (livestock &
feed-crops)
 1-2 acres of rainforest cleared every second
 91% of amazon destruction is due to animal
agriculture

 Animal agriculture water consumption ranges from
34-76 trillion gallons annually

 Farm of 2500 dairy cows = waste from a city of
411,000 people
 Every minute, 7 million pounds of excrement are
produced by animals raised for food in the USA
 130x more animal waste (1.4 bill. tons/year &
116,000 lbs./sec.) than human waste is produced in
the US

 Livestock have created 500+ nitrogen flooded dead-
zones in our oceans
 90 million tons of fish are pulled from the oceans
each year
 ¾ of world’s fisheries are exploited, as the best
interest of the corporation is priority over correct
fishing

5 pounds of unintended marine
species are caught and discarded
as by-kill (650,000 whales,

million sharks are killed every
year by fishing vessels)

CO2)
 Consumer of no animal products compared to meat
consumer uses:
 1/11th oil
 1/13th water
 1/18th land
 Each day, a consumer of no animal products saves:
 1,100 gallons of water
 45 pounds of grain
 30 sq ft of forested land
 20 lbs CO2 equivalent
 1 animal’s life

 To feed 1 person for 1 year:
 Consumer of no animal products: 1/6th acre
 Meat consumer: 18x that of above (3 acres)
 We are currently growing enough food to feed 10 billion
people.
 82% of starving children live in countries where food is fed
to animals, and the animals are eaten by western countries
