This document summarizes social advocacy projects undertaken by PAF Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology from Spring 2011 to Summer 2010. It provides details of 42 projects that helped 53 families with total funds disbursed of Rs. 638,845. The projects focused on self-employment generation and included providing sewing machines, shops, carts, and other assets to help impoverished families start small businesses or generate income. Most beneficiary families described lacked regular sources of income and included widows, the disabled, and others facing difficult financial circumstances.

20. Mobile Accessories Shop for Mr. Bilal Mr. Bilal is a disabled person, though highly skilled in mobile repairing. He also wants to earn a dignified living and become financially independent Taha Ahmed, Hammad, Asad and Taha Jan with an investment of Rs. 30,000 established a mobile repair and accessories shop in Gulistan-e-Johar on the concept of Social business, in which the profit will be reinvested, and the students only recover the investment.
21. Flavored French Fries Quratulain and Fatima invested Rs. 13,000 in a cart of Flavored French Fries which provided source of sustenance to a poor kid after his school timing. The kid was expected to run the cart in supervision of his guardian. This cart was put in business in Defense Phase 2 and Jonajo Town St-2.
22. French Fries Stall for Mr. Sabir Mr. Sabir was unemployed who was provided with a french fries stall in the form of social business by Farooque, Ali, Wajahat and Munawar. The total investment was Rs.16,000/- which was recovered over a period of 4 months. The profits were shared with Mr. Sabir periodically.
23. Shop of Embroided Cloths for Sheetal, Zain, Habib and Ayman established a shop of embroided cloths in a shop near NED university. The total investment was Rs. 22,300/-, where as shop and cloths were provided to the group free of charge by an angle investor (relative of a group member). This was also a social business and generated an employment of a single person.
24. Mobile Repair Shop in Gulistan-e-Johar Mukhtar, Shumaila and Aisha established a shop by the name of Fox computers with an investment of Rs. 30,000/-. This shop provided an employment to Mr. Ali Hasan who belongs to a deserving family. The investment was recovered in 5 months time and after that the shop was handed over the employee. This venture was also a social business.
