This document discusses a study of the vegetative trichomes of Petrea volubilis L., a perennial liana. It finds that trichomes on vegetative parts come in two types - non-glandular and glandular. Non-glandular trichomes vary from unicellular to multicellular and differ in details between plant parts. Glandular trichomes are capitate and stalked. Trichomes provide useful taxonomic information and suggest functional roles like transpiration control and protection. The epidermal surface is papillate across organs. Trichomes are diagnostic for P. volubilis and their study provides insights into structure, development and classification of trichomes.
