3. AGE
The age of my primary target audience is 15-19 years old male only.
The reason why I choose this particular age group is because there is a
gap in the market that documentaries are actually targeting young
people and there isn’t any documentaries produced by a young
person. This course gave me the opportunity to make a documentary
that appeals and deals with young people’s issues.
Likewise, this target audience is relevant to the type of documentary
that I am making, which is about segregation in cricket at school level.
My target audience can relate to my subject matter and my
documentary as they may be playing cricket or be a fan of it. The
documentary is set to appeal to teenagers.
4. SOCIAL CLASS
My Primary target audience comes from working class to middles class
backgrounds. The reason why I have decided to choose this broad
class is because cricket is been played by everyone despite what
background they come from. But, I needed to design the class of my
target audience so that my documentary doesn’t typecast or consist of
locations that are highly deprived which may convey the wrong
message to the target audience, as my viewers.
Most importantly, my target audience depending from their class may
have different opinions or thoughts about the subject matter of my
documentary during the voxpops or overall.
5. ETHNICITY
The ethnicity of my target audience is from a mixed ethnic background.
My target audience would come from an Asian, British White
Origins, Black African or Afro-Caribbean or other mixed backgrounds.
The reason why I choose my target audience to be multicultural is
because I don’t want to base my documentary on just one specific
ethnicity as there may be other ethnicity who may watch my
documentary and lose interests because they may think it is not appeal
to them.
6. WHAT DO MY TARGET AUDIENCE DO FOR
LIVING?
My target audience who I have specifically categorised in
my other slides may be in full education, training or
employed. In contrast, they may also be unemployed or
not in education, training or employment.
The main reason why I have decided to choose these
young people as my target audience is because my
documentary will be mainly about whether it is right or
wrong to have segregation in cricket at school level. It
won’t be really important what my target audience does
as individuals.
7. NATIONALITY
Above all, the nationality of my target audience is mainly British
because my documentary is about current issue and it mainly focuses
on the segregation in cricket at UK schools level no other countries
across the world.
Again, the nationality of my target audience may not make any
difference to the production of my documentary as I will be mainly
focusing on the subject matter not specifically where my target
audience comes from. But, it does make me aware of what I am
dealing with and what and what I have to make in order to make my
documentary as appealing and engaging for my target audience and
meet my proposed idea for my documentary.
8. RELIGION
Religion isn’t of a high importance for my
documentary as it won’t have any influence on its
production.
But my target audience as a group of different
individuals may be
Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jewi
sh or Atheists where they don’t belief in anything
at all.
9. HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
The hobbies and interests of my target audience are as followed:
Playing for cricket school team or any other cricket team.
Playing other sport activities such as football, boxing running or
swimming
Listening to R&B, Hip Hop and Rap music
My primary target audience which are boys may be interested in
playing PS3, XBOX 360, playing cricket and football.
Unlike my secondary audience who are also male but older age 35-
50 may be interested in reading non fictional or fictional books such
as about life, educational and sport books
Young people as my target audience often hang out, eat outside, go
clubbing and watch TV.
10. WHERE MY TARGET AUDIENCE MAY
POSSIBLY LIVE?
The majority of my target audience lives in
London as the documentary is going to be based
in London for Young people in London.
My target audience before having done any
audience research could live in council or any
state home with their families.
11. GENDER
The gender of my target audience is only male because it will cause
complications in regards to the production of my documentary if I
choose specifically boys and girls. Therefore, it was much better to
target male audience as they are the ones who regularly play cricket.
I have chosen boys as my primary age 15-19 because they are main
people who may be affected by the segregation in cricket at school
level and may what to resolve this issue in order to play together to
make the game more enjoyable and friendly.
My Secondary audience who are also male but older age 35-50 35-50
may be cricket fans because it’s like a good old times in British Empire
Victoria's times only played by gentlemen’s and the excitement to it.
12. PERSONALITY
My target audience would be young and free who are interested in
cricket and any other sport field.
My target audience express their feelings, thoughts, idea in different
ways.
Teenagers or young people are often opportunistic as they copy
actions, attitudes, behaviours from what they see from the world
around them though the mass media or people around them those
entertain them into what they are expected to be.
Young boys as part of my target audience love to seek attention and
preference from other people.
13. MARITAL STATUS
Significantly, my target audience is either single or they
have got a relationship as a boyfriend and girlfriend but
they are not married or divorced. The reason why my
target audience is not married is because they too young
for their age range focus on other important things not on
marriage.
Even tough, this part about the marital status does not
have a major impact on the production of my
documentary but still it is important to categorise my
target audience in a specific group so that they are easily
identified as my target audience for my documentary.
