2. Each ganglion has 3 roots:
Otic ganglion is exception. It contains 4th root (motor somatic
efferent) from nerve to medial pterygoid to two tensors
1. Parasympathetic root carries preganglionic fibres from cells of
origin in brain stem nuclei. This essential functional root of
ganglion. Its fibres synapse in it whereas all other roots simply
pass through the ganglion without synapse.
2. Sympathetic root contains postganglionic fibres from
sup.cervical ganglion whereas preganglionic cell bodies are in
lateral Grey horn of cord segment T1-T3Sympathetic root
contains postganglionic fibres from sup.cervical ganglion
whereas preganglionic cell bodies are in lat. Grey horn of cord
segment T1-T3
3. The sensory root contains peripheral processes of cell bodies in
trigeminal ganglion

15-20 short ciliary nerves which
pass with optic nerve to back of
eye ball
11. Branches of pterygopalatine
ganglion
They run in all directions except
outward & forward:
1.Ascending: orbital(periostium)
2.Descending:ant.palatine
3.Inward:nasopalatine & nasal
4.Backward:the pharyngeal
