Better productivity through two displays for each thin client
1. Better productivity through two displays for each thin
client
With two screens, you can not only see more but work more quickly too. Whether it be
in accounting, customer care, software development or transport, dual view has long
been the standard – for the thin client or zero client too.
What is dual view?
Dual view refers to the ability of a graphics chip set to control two screens in parallel.
The two displays can show the same content, or one can serve as an extension of the
other. This results in a larger Windows display on which a number of programs can be
shown and operated alongside each other.
Dual view on the thin client
A thin client is a small computer device which primarily serves
as an input and output unit for accessing hosted applications or
virtual desktops. These applications and virtual desktops run in
a company's own or externally operated computer center. In a
business context, the thin client is increasingly replacing the
typical workstation PC because it results in lower operating
costs and can be used roughly twice as long owing to its lower
mechanical vulnerability. As a result, the dual view capability of thin clients has become
a frequent selection criteria.
Typical user scenarios
Dual view is particularly popular in document management. Scanned documents, e.g.
invoices, are shown on one screen in the PDF reader, while a booking mask for
example where the invoice data are entered is shown on the other monitor. Other
example applications include traffic and video monitoring, control centers in
production or the workstations of web designers and graphic artists. However, dual
view is also used at standard workstations – in order to keep an eye on incoming e-
mails on one of the two monitors for example.
2. Requirements regarding thin clients with dual view
Dual view-capable thin clients such as those offered by the German market leader IGEL
for example must have two digital video outputs. The facility to centrally assign the dual
view settings is important too as this helps to reduce the configuration outlay. IGEL
meets this requirement with the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) remote
management software which comes supplied free of charge with every thin client, zero
client and software thin client. The German thin client market leader therefore offers
everything necessary for the efficient and, if necessary, area-wide use of dual view
workstations.
