The Republic of Latvia was
founded on November 18, 1918. It
has been recognised as a
sovereign state since 1920
despite occupations and rule by
the Soviet Union (1940-1941,
1945-1991).



Our National Holiday is November
18, the date of the proclamation
of Latvia’s independence in 1918.



On August 21, 1991 Latvia
declared the independence, reestablished international
diplomatic ties.



Latvia in 2004 became a member
of the European Union and NATO.
 Latvia

is the central country of the Baltic
States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) and is
located in North-eastern Europe on the east
coast of the Baltic Sea.

Russia in the east,
Lithuania in the south
and the Baltic Sea
in the west.

Plavinas is situated in the centre of Latvia
and 120 km from our capital city - Riga.

It is located on the bank of the biggest
river in Latvia – the Daugava.

History
 The modern history of our town began
in 1927.
 Since 2009 we are at the Plavinas
region. It consists of three small rural
districts:
 Vietalva, Klintaine, Aiviekste

about 7000.

History
 Since 1934 the school has its own badge
for school leavers. It symbolizes its place of
location – where the Aiviekste and the Daugava
meet together – and the blue colour symbolizes
dreams and hopes.
 Every year on the 1st Saturday of February our
school leavers meet at school.

  • 2.  The Republic of Latvia was founded on November 18, 1918. It has been recognised as a sovereign state since 1920 despite occupations and rule by the Soviet Union (1940-1941, 1945-1991).  Our National Holiday is November 18, the date of the proclamation of Latvia’s independence in 1918.  On August 21, 1991 Latvia declared the independence, reestablished international diplomatic ties.  Latvia in 2004 became a member of the European Union and NATO.
  • 3.  Latvia is the central country of the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) and is located in North-eastern Europe on the east coast of the Baltic Sea.  Latvia borders with Estonia in the north, Russia in the east, Lithuania in the south and the Baltic Sea in the west.
  • 4. Territory - 64,589 km2  Population in 2011: about 2,07 million (Urban: 66% Rural: 32%)  The official language – Latvian  President of Latvia – Andris Bērziņš 
  • 5. Latvia has a total of 110 municipalities. The largest cities in Latvia are: Rīga – 717,000 Daugavpils – 106,000 Liepāja – 85,000 Jelgava – 65,000 Jūrmala – 55,000 Rēzekne – 36,000 Ventspils – 43,000 There are 77 towns and cities in Latvia. 23 of them have a population of over 10,000.
  • 6.  The capital of Latvia is Riga  Latvia’s political, economical and cultural centre.  One third of Latvia’s population (717 thousand) lives and works in Rīga.

  • 14. Plavinas: Location Plavinas is situated in the centre of Latvia and 120 km from our capital city - Riga.
  • 15. Plavinas: Location It is located on the bank of the biggest river in Latvia – the Daugava.
  • 16. Plavinas: Population There are about 3700 people at Plavinas: 65,1 % Latvians 23,6 % Russians 4,4% Belorussians 2,7 % Polish
  • 17. History  The modern history of our town began in 1927.  Since 2009 we are at the Plavinas region. It consists of three small rural districts:  Vietalva, Klintaine, Aiviekste  The total number of population is about 7000.

  • 25. History  Since 1934 the school has its own badge for school leavers. It symbolizes its place of location – where the Aiviekste and the Daugava meet together – and the blue colour symbolizes dreams and hopes.  Every year on the 1st Saturday of February our school leavers meet at school.
