3. The class II force system
A new force system of forces
Careful study of cusp relationship
Final diagnostic decision based on
1]ANB relationship
2]Max posterior space analysis
3]patient cooperation
www.indiandentalacademy.com
4. Guidelines 1]ANB less than 5 ,patient is cooperative
max 3rd molar-missing
-present /approaching eruption
2]ANB of 5-8, Patient is cooperative.
Max 3rd molar normally erupting
3]ANB greater than 10,patient’s cooperation is
questionable+max 3rd molars are present
Facial balance and harmony should be
considered before making decision

5. Orthodontic correction of the ClassII
dental relationship
Mandibular archwire
-0.0215x0.028 stabilizing archwire
-1st ,2nd ,3rd order bends
-Loop stops 0.5 mm short of molar
tubes
-Gingival spurs distal to lateral
incisors

6. Maxillary arch
-0.020x0.025 archwire
-Closed helical bulbous loops
-1st ,2nd order bends.
-Gingival spur distal to 2nd premolar
-Gingival high pull headgear hooks
distal to central incisor

7. Class II lay on hooks with
gingival extension distal to
lateral incisor
Closed helical bulbous loops
opened on each side and
ligated
8 ounce class II elastics
Anterior vertical elastics
High pull headgear

8. Force system employed for 1 month.
Mandibular archwire is removed ,checked and activated
Activation of max archwire repeated until 2nd molar has
class I
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Second molar distalization
9. When Class I relationship
of 2nd molar have been established
closed coil spring is compressed
Elastic chain stretched from
2nd molar to 1st molar.
-Class II elastic
-Anterior vertical elastic
-High pull headgear

First molar distalization
10. After 1st molars are moved distally max 2nd premolar is
moved distally followed by max canine
4 months position the posterior teeth into overcorrected
class I relationship.

11. 0.020x0.025 max archwire with
7 mm closing loops +order
bends +gingival hooks
Closing loop opened +mild
Class II+anterior vertical elastic
+High pull headgear
Maxillary space is closed

12. Denture completion
Order bends placed in
0.0215x0.028 archwire.

13. Forces are based on arrangement of each tooth, relation
of one arch to other and relationship of arches to the
environment .
Progress ceph and tracing evaluated to determine mand
incisor position, minor control of planes lingual root
torque in max incisors.
Visual observations permit evaluation of lip line ,max
incisor relationship, amount of cusp seating and artistic
positioning of incisors.
This step is considered as mini treatment of
malocclusion .
www.indiandentalacademy.com
14. Characteristics observed at end of the stage of
treatment
1]incisors aligned
2]occlusion overtreated
3]anterior teeth in edge to edge
4]max canine and 2nd premolar in class I
5]max 1st molar mb cusp in mb groove of man
1st molar
6]distal cusp of 1st molar and 2nd molar out of
occlusion
7]all spaces closed tightly

15. DENTURE RECOVERY
Ideal result after all mechanics are discontinued
and uninhibited function and other
environmental influences stabilize and finalize
the position of dentition.
Forces involved are of muscles and
periodontium
Certain tooth and denture changes tend to revert
toward their original position .
www.indiandentalacademy.com
16. Tweed occlusion or transitional occlusion
characterized by disclusion of 2nd molars and
distal cusps of 1st molars.
It allows muscles of mastication to effect the
greatest force on the primary chewing table in
midarch area.
Class I and class II deep-bite patients -anterior
teeth positioned in an end-to-end relationship
Transitional occlusion
www.indiandentalacademy.com
17. The muscles of swallowing expression
,and mastication involved in determining
final stable ,esthetic relationship of the
teeth –functional occlusion
Final occlusion
