- Annotations improve context and establish a record of how decisions were madeWith this new annotations collaboration object, QlikView users can engage each other in discussions about QlikView content. A user can create notes associated with any QlikView object. Other users can then add their own commentary to create a threaded discussion. Users can capture snapshots of their selections and include them in the discussion so others can get back to the same place in the analysis when reviewing notes and comments. QlikView captures the state of the object (current selections), as well as who made each note and comment and when, for a lasting record of how a decision was made.
- Collaborative sessions bring decision makers togetherCollaborative sessions improve the quality of business decisions for geographically-distributed and mobile users—or anyone who works in teams to analyze information and make decisions. Users can jointly interact with a QlikView document in real time―sharing selections and testing scenarios together to better uncover insights and solve problems.Collaborative sessions deliver bidirectional, real-time, interactive QlikView app sharing. Users can share a QlikView document with anyone else, including those who don’t have a QlikView license. A user invites others to join a session by distributing a one-time-use URL. Each participant interacts with the same QlikView app at the same time, for the duration of the session—without having to pass control manually from one to the other. Collaborative sessions work on tablets and smart phones as well as desktop and laptop computers.
- The important thing to show in this screen shot is “Stop Sharing.” The person who initiated the session can at any time click “Stop Sharing” and the shared session will end.All other participants will no longer be able to see the application.The initiator can also end a session by simply closing the browser.
- The Comparative Analysis themeQlikView 11 takes our core associative analytics capability further through the introduction of comparative analysis. Comparative analysis enables business users to choose multiple selection sets in the data and visually compare these user-defined data sets to spot trends, outliers, or differences.Why did we invest in this theme?Our customers can already do comparative analysis in QlikView 10, but we wanted to make it easier for them.In QlikView 10, when a user creates two different groupings (“selection states”) against the same data set for comparison, they must “detach” one of them. That detached set then becomes no longer interactive.In QlikView 11, users can compare 2 or more groupings of data and analyze the comparisons in a fully interactive way.
- Business users can compare multiple selections of data inside one document, one chart, or one object, to spot trends, outliers, or differences. This makes it easier for business users gain new insights into patterns of use, opportunities and threats, and relative performance.An example might be:Let’s say you work for a food and beverage manufacturer. You want to create a marketing campaign and are trying to figure out which products to include. Perhaps you have a lot of unsold items in inventory.Compare on regions because you might want to have different groupings Maybe you want to get rid of inventory. What products to package with it to get rid of the inventory? And is it different per region?Comparative analysis in QlikView 11 allows the user to quickly spot similarities, differences, overlaps, and outliers.In this example, the user is comparing two different user-defined sets of products.In this screen shot, we are comparing sales of product subcategories by region.We have selected the year 2011.Then, in the blue section we see have selected two product subcategories: “bologna” and “cheese.” In the gray box area we have selected “donuts” and “cookies.”Insights from making these selections?In the Nordics we sell a lot more donuts and cookies than we sell bologna and cheese. In the other regions, the reverse is true.
- This screen shot shows the same selections as in the prior screen shot: the year 2011, and two groupings: “bologna and cheese” and “cookies and donuts.” The data is displayed via a Venn diagram, which shows the overlaps in the data.On this tab in the application, we’re looking for overlaps on our customer invoices for various product groupings. This visual enables the user to quickly and easily see that for the product subcategories selected, there is no overlap between the two selected sets of data. In other words, we tend not to sell bologna-and-cheese groups (“baskets” or “sets” or “kits”) at the same time that we sell cookies and donuts.One possible insight? We might not want to run a promotion that contains both bologna and cheese and cookies and donuts.The user might continue to explore options until he or she finds significant overlap, which they could then use to identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities.

QlikView on Mobile delivers true Business Discovery and the full power of QlikView to the mobile device, including associative experience, interactive analysis, access to live data, and search.Why did we invest in this theme?Our mobile strategy is a direct response to customer requirements.They told us they want to be able to easily support multiple mobile device platforms.Our mobile strategy is focused on HTML5 browsers, so we can support multiple platforms with maximum interactivity.
- Traditional BI vendors’ mobile offeringsClients specific to the device. This means that apps are built specifically for each platform (e.g., Apple iOS and Android) and form factor (e.g., smartphone, tablet) and developers must create dashboards and reports individually for each platform and form factor they support. This approach introduces considerable complexity for developers and IT in terms of data management, application maintenance, and security administration.Limited to static reports or dashboards. Most BI vendors that provide a mobile solution do no more than deliver static reports or dashboards via handheld devices. Although these reports may look good, the data sets are limited and analyses support only a small set of predefined questions. This means users get a seamless experience with their QlikView apps across tablets and desktop and laptop computers. They get the same functionality and interactivity, without waiting for developers to create new versions of the app for each specific mobile platform. QlikView 11 delivers full mobile functionality for tablets on Apple iOS and Android platforms.Browser support for smartphones makes optimal use of small touch screensBusiness users get improved usability by accessing QlikView on their smartphones using HTML5 browsers.When accessing the QlikView Server from a smartphone, users can choose to interact with their app one object at a time. For small-screen devices such as iPhone and Android Phone, single-object display mode delivers a more intuitive user experience without the needfor developers to rebuild applications.

- Traditional BI has a few shortcomings with regard to development of analytic apps. Trad’l BI has the concept of “end users” – people who are at the end of the road, passively consuming software and information provided to them. Trad’l BI can take months if not years to deploy, and requires loads of professional services.In contrast, a rapid analytic app platform takes an iterative approach to development. Softens the edge between developer and business user. A rapid analytic app platform gives business users the power that traditionally would have been available only to developers or power users / analysts.Is about developing apps quickly and painlessly. The developer has all the needed tools in one package (e.g., ETL, development, dashboard creation, etc.). The scripting language is SQL-like. User interface design is WYSIWYG. Apps can be deployed to a server for consumption over the web with just a few clicks.

- Granular chart dimension control simplifies presentation of data in chartsGranular chart dimension control enables developers to more easily create meaningful comparisons among dimensions in a chart. Developers can more easily display the lowest values, first values, top values, etc., in a single chart. This required the use of macros and advanced aggregation functions in previous releases of QlikView.In QlikView 10, QlikView can still answer these types of questions, but it requires developers to create a complex aggregation function. In QlikView 11, it can be done with just a few clicks (checking off items in properties box).This will also improve performance of chart calculation. Calculations now happen at the chart engine layer, not the presentation layer.In this screen shot:The user can choose to see which product types make up X percent of sales.In this case, they do this with a slider bar.This image shows which product types make up 80% of sales.The user can slide the bar over to any other percentage to see which products make up that percentage of sales.

Designers can create QlikView user interfaces that are more efficient and user friendly by placing multiple objects on a single tab, snapped together in a grid. Users gain consolidated viewing context.In QlikView 10, you could only see a single object in a container. Now you can have more than one object in the same container. If you minimize a container, all objects in that container are minimized. This used to require creating a macro.Improved tab navigation makes it easier to find QlikView content. In the Ajax client, we’ve improved the way users navigate from one sheet (tab) to another within a QlikView document.Users can now scroll through tabs to find the sheet they want, or select a sheet from a drop down menu. They can also add new sheets more easily.
- Conditional enabling of dimensions and expressions makes apps more intuitive and easy to useDevelopers can now manipulate QlikView objects to provide refined context based on a user’s action, selections, or role, or the underlying data conditions. - AccessPoint is the QlikView portal where users can find and access QlikView apps to which they have security rights. With QlikView 11, AccessPoint provides a more visually appealing and user-friendly experience for people accessing QlikView apps served up by QlikView Server. New and improved capabilities include a faster and more modern design, as well as the ability for administrators to assign characteristics/attributes to documents to make them easier to find and organizeand add a searchable description to a document.Users can search for and "favorite" apps, and more easily sort apps in a detail view.
