4. FET Open
- Provides foundations for new future technologies
- No restriction on the type of technology addressed, or any expectation to have more than 1
project on any topic
- Gatekeepers:
- Clear and radical vision, enabled by a new technology concept that challenges current
paradigms
- Breakthrough technological target – aim is first proof of concept
- Interdisciplinary research must be part of achieving the technological breakthrough, opening
up new areas of investigation
- Deadlines run at ~9 month intervals, two remaining: September 2019, May 2020
- 357M€ budget for 2019-2020
- Project size is up to 3 M€ EU funding, typically 3-8 partners (normal rules apply)
5. FET Open
- Area of strength for UK (#1), even post-brexit
- 133 participations (14%)
- 67M€ EU contribution (16%)
- 27 SMEs
- Lots of top Universities
- Historically very hard to access (1-2% success rate), although this has reached typical levels (10%)
as participants get to grips with the scheme
- FET Innovation Launchpad offers continuation through short-small projects focused on non-
scientific development
- 18 months, up to 100k€, call deadlines October 2019, October 2020
- Only open to past FET projects
- 5.7M€ for 2019-2020
- Part of EIC pilot as ‘Pathfinder’
6. FET Proactive
- Consolidation and community building, building on foundations established through FET Open or
elsewhere, with pre-defined themes
- Themes selected by ‘FET Advisory Group’, through a broad consultation process
- Typically 4-7M€, more participants, can involve FSTP
