• It limited the monarchies power
• Laws were created and no one had the
power to overrule it
3. Glorious Revolution
• It took place in England
• William of Orange took over the
country
• the Parliament was the document that
changed the power of the kings and
was the result of the revolution
4. The English Bill of Rights
• It was written in 1689
• It didn’t allow the kings to do what
they wanted as far as cruel and unusual
punishment towards their people.
• It also didn’t privilege the monarchs to
collect taxes whenever with out asking
permission
5. The Enlightenment
• it was a European movement
• it gave people the freedom to be an
individual
• it took place in 17th century
• it was very important because it gives
others the entitlement of life and liberty
6. Charles-Louis Montesquieu
• He was from France
• he was famous for his articulation of
the theory of separation of powers
7. John Locke
• He was from England
• 1632-28 was his lifespan
• natural right: it is any right that exists
by virtue of natural law
• Meaning they are self evident

8. Jean Jacques Rousseau
• he was Geneva
• he was born on June 28, 1712 and
passed away on July 2, 1778
• The Social Contract: it was used to
understand and explain the relationship
between individuals
• it also explained appropriate
relationships with the government
9. Thomas Jefferson
• he was from Virginia
• he wrote the Declaration of
Independence
• Jefferson did not like the fact that
people treated slaves as their property
and he wanted to put a stop to that
immediately and so he did!
