7. Research Design
The descriptive method of research is utilized in this
study. This method is the most appropriate because the
study involves description of the level of reading
comprehension of the Bachelor of Secondary Education
students in NORTHERN NEGROS STATE COLLEGE
OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.
8. Respondents of the Study
The respondents of the study are the 33 Bachelor of
Secondary Education third year students in NORTHERN
NEGROS STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND
TECHNOLOGY in which 9 are males and 24 are
females. The researchers consider total enumeration of
the students since their population is manageable. The
distribution of the respondents of the study according to
their sex is presented in table one.
9. Research Instrument
The research instrument is consisted of three Parts. Part I of
the research instrument consists of the items which gathers
respondents' profile such as their name, sex, age, type of secondary
school graduated, parents educational attainment, and parents
occupation. Part II of the research instrument consists of the answer
sheet that have numbers 1-40 with its corresponding boxes where
the letter of the correct answer will be inserted. Part III of the
research instrument is the reading passages. It is a series of texts to
be read. There are three reading passages to be read and there are
sets of questions in every reading passage. The total number of
questions is 40 items. The test will require 1 hour of answering.
The researchers adopt a standardized test in reading from
the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Practice
Test - plus 1 by Vanessa Jakeman and Clare McDowel, so the
instrument can be considered valid and reliable. IELTS assesses
the reading comprehension of students in college. The instrument
consists of reading passages with a total of 2,000 - 2,750 words and
questions which will determine their reading comprehension.
10. Data Gathering Procedure
In the conduct of the study, the researchers solicited
the support of third year BSEd teacher, allowing her
students to read and answer the needed data. The
researchers will ask the permission of the third year
BSEd teacher in her subject (Literature of the world) to
allow the researchers use her 1 hour class session to let
the students read and answer the test. The result of the
test will be recorded by the teacher so as to have valid
and reliable information. The data will be tallied,
analyzed and interpreted according to the specific
problems set forth.
11. Data Analysis Procedure
For Problem 1 which determines the profile
of the Bachelor of Secondary Education students in
NORTHERN NEGROS STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE
AND TECHNOLOGY in terms of their sex, age, type of
secondary school graduated, parents’ educational
attainment and parents’ occupation, the frequency and
percentage is used.
12. For Problem 2 which determines the level
of reading comprehension of the Bachelor of Secondary
Education students in NORTHERN NEGROS STATE
COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY when
grouped according to selected variables, the mean is
used.
13. To describe the level of
reading comprehension of the
Bachelor of Secondary
Education students in
NORTHERN NEGROS STATE
COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND
TECHNOLOGY, the scale
beside is used.

14. For Problem 3 which determines if there is
significant difference between on the level of reading
comprehension when grouped according to their sex,
age, type of secondary school graduated, parents
educational attainment and parents occupation. For the
variables sex and type of secondary school graduated,
the unpaired T-Test is used. For the variables age,
parents’ educational attainment and parents’ occupation,
the ANOVA is used.
