The Aboriginal People
The Aboriginal people have been living forover 60’000 years and they used to use verybasic utensils including bowls, baskets andmade very basic huts called ‘humpies’.
This is called a ‘Humpy’.
Languages
There are over 500 different language groups in
Australia including Wadi Wadi. They also
expanded their thoughts by dancing at special
ceremonies
Spirituality
The Aboriginal People told dreamtime stories and that meant, they
were expressing their beliefs. They mainly expressed their
beliefs to their children, then when they’re older, they’d tell their
children until the present day. Sometimes they painted
themselves with ochre. Ochre only came in Aboriginal colours
which are: Yellow, Red, Orange, Brown and Black.
Family Life and Roles
The Aboriginal People had certain
roles in the family. The men hunted
and the women gathered.
Traditional Food
The main foods of the traditional Aboriginal People
are Fish, Kangaroo, Emu, Witchetty Grubs, Nuts and
Berries.
Traditional Implements and
Tools
Aboriginal tools are used to grind, smash, cut and
collect. The traditional tools were made of stones
and sticks. The Aboriginal People made baskets
from dried tall grass that gets threaded in and out
of itself. They also used the tall grass to tie up the
stones to the sticks to make the tools. To make
bowls they carved out a chunk of a tree and the
cut it hollow. They made boomerangs doing the
same thing. They used stones to crack open nut
shells and berry seeds. The women’s main utensil
is the ‘Digging Stick’ which is used to dig up
witchetty grubs and insects to cook over a fire and
eat ( no, there were no marshmallows)!
