Jifundishe -Technology in education intervention-edited.pptx
1. It’s more than a library, it’s a
second chance.
A community based organization helping
rural communities access educational
opportunities, and much more.
Jifundishe
2. Our Story
“Jifundishe” means “teach
yourself” in Swahili, it was
founded in 2004 when Debra
Kelly came to the conclusion
that a community library can
provide learning resources in
the surrounding society. Since
then, Jifundishe has become
not just a library but a place
that supports the community
in more ways than one.
3. Independent Study
Program
Helping students excel
through alternative
informal education
Prepare students of all levels
for national exams
. Available classes and extra
help
. students who used the I.S.
program had an 85% pass rate
in 2017 -2021
4. Technology space To recognize the importance of the
use of technology to improve student’s
learning space, Jifundishe uses digital
learning resources. We have
computers where students are taught
basic computer skills, enabling them
to use basic programs. We have
installed an internet tower to ensure a
stable internet connection whereas
students can access learning
materials from google and YouTube as
opposed to only depending on what is
being taught by teachers in class.
Secondary and college Students have
been the biggest beneficiaries as the
experience shows.
5. ……technology
space So far we have witnessed an
increased good performance in
national exams and an increased self-
learning attitude among students. We
have installed offline learning
materials on Rachel-pi where students
can access learning materials even
when the internet is not there due to
electricity
E-readers are another technology
approach that Jifundishe uses. Our
students from primary school level to
secondary have access to e-readers
in which each e-reader is filled with
more than 200 different books, from
textbooks to story books.

8. Jifundishe Testimonial.
Through the multi-purpose library
they were able to advance
community members in reading,
knowledge, and technological skills
and empower students who had
been abandoned by the government
system to continue their studies,
excel in them, and move forward to
university and beyond as
independent adults.
