QR Code
What is a QR Code
 Quick Response Code
 2-D Bar code
 Scanning the QR Code takes you to a
website with more information.
 Video
 Website
 Blog
 Wiki
 Direct link to a page on the web
A machine-readable code consisting of an array
of black and white squares, typically used for
storing URLs or other information for reading
by the camera on a smartphone.
 QR Codes are gaining popularity because the
technology is "open source", i.e. available for
everyone.
 Significant advantages of QR Codes over
conventional barcodes are larger data capacity
and high fault tolerance.
History
 The QR code system was invented in 1994 by the Japanese company Denso Wave.
 Its purpose was to track vehicles during manufacturing; it was designed to allow high-speed
component scanning.
 QR codes are now used in a much broader context, including both commercial tracking
applications and convenience-oriented applications aimed at mobile-phone users (termed
mobile tagging). QR codes may be used to display text to the user, to add a vCard contact to
the user's device, to open a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), or to compose an email or text
message.
 There are a great many QR code generators available as software or as online tools.
 The QR code has become one of the most-used types of two-dimensional code.
Structure Of QR Code
What Are The Different Sections In a QR Code?
 QR Codes are split into various sections and it's these sections that the
scanners use to decode the data.
Below is a breakdown of each section-:
Section 1 - Finder Pattern
Section 2 - Separators
Section 3 - Timing Pattern
Section 4 - Alignment Patterns
Section 5 - Format Information
 Section 6 - Data
 Section 7 - Error Correction(Reed-Solomon
code)
Section 8 - Remainder Bits
What Are The Different Sections In a QR Code?
Section 1 - Finder Pattern
The finder pattern consists of three identical structures that are located in all corners of the
QR Code except the bottom right corner. Each pattern is based on a 3x3 matrix of black
modules surrounded by white modules that are again surrounded by black modules.
Section 2 - Separators
The white separators have a width of one pixel and improve the recognizability of the
Finder Patters as they separate them from the actual data. They are generally always white
Section 3 - Timing Pattern
Alternating black and white modules in the Timing Pattern enable the decoder software to
determine the width of a single module.
Section 4 - Alignment Patterns
Alignment Patterns support the decoder software in compensating for moderate image
distortions. Version 1 QR Codes do not have Alignment Patterns. With growing size of the
code, more Alignment Patterns are added.
What Are The Different Sections In a QR Code?
Section 5 - Format Information
The Formation Information section consists of 15 bits next to the separators and stores
information about the error correction level of the QR Code and the chosen masking
pattern.
Section 6 - Data
Data is converted into a bit stream and then stored in 8 bit parts (called code words) in
the data section.
Section 7 - Error Correction
Similar to the data section, error correction codes are stored in 8 bit long code- words in
the error correction section.
Section 8 - Remainder Bits
This section consists of empty bits if data and error correction bits can not be divided
into 8 bit code words without remainder.

Storage
 The amount of data that can be stored in the QR code
symbol depends on the datatype (mode, or input character
set), version (1,.. 40, indicating the overall dimensions of
the symbol) , and error correction level.
 The maximum storage capacities occur for 40-L symbols
(version 40, error correction level ).
 Up to 7089 digits or 4296 characters, including punctuation
marks and special characters, can be entered in one Code.
 In addition to numbers and characters, words and phrases
(e.g. Internet addresses) can be encoded as well. As more
data is added to the QR Code, the Code size increases and
the Code structure becomes more complex.

Maximum character storage capacity (40-L)character refers to
individual values of the input mode/datatype

What kinds of information can be linked to
a QR Code?
 Anyone with a smartphone, iPod, tablet device, or
webcam can scan QR codes.
 It will usually connect you to a web page.
 Other types of information include: an email,
photograph, document, folder/file, or text.
 Once the code is scanned and processed, it takes you
directly to the URL on your device, or shows you
whatever else was encoded in the QR code.
How to Make a QR Code
 Step 1: Find a free QR code
generator..
 Step 2: Choose your data format. .
 Step 3:Enter in your data....
 Step 4:Change the color
 Step5: Share your code..
How to scan:
Once you have the reader:
 Open the app, which will activate your device’s camera
function.
 Aim at the QR code and hold still for a few seconds while
the camera focuses.
 An option to go to the information should pop up once the
reader has captured it.
 Welcome to another resource treasure!
