audience, through suspense, violence or surprise. There are many
sub-genres within horror, including: Ghost, Monster, and Slasher.
The main features of a horror film are; iconography e.g. props
such as knives or chainsaws, a haunted house, a graveyard,
religious symbols; the setting e.g. at night, abandoned places, a
house; The narrative e.g. good against evil; The Style e.g. using
music or complete silence to create tension, POV shots from the
killers view to create suspense; Characters E.g. the killer is usually
a supernatural being such as a demon, whilst the victim is usually
a vulnerable person.

Setting: Normal household, with most happenings occurring
during the night.
Religious significance and symbolism in most of the films.
‘Evil’ character is a demon whilst the victims include young
children.
Silence is often used to create tension and build up to a shock in
order to frighten the audience.
