Research into
Costume, Props and
Location

Introduction
 Costumes, Props and Location all have crucial aspects with in a
documentary of representations to the viewer. The costume warn can
show things such as, the what the subject will or has been doing or even
symbols for what they believe in. Props can be used as symbols to show
what the subject is doing or gives good visuals to the viewer about what
the object has been used for and why, and location can show give the
viewer greater understanding about the topic being discussed through
visuals.
Costume- Black tracksuit
 By using the black tracksuit with a hoody for our costume of the people kidnapping
the girl it will give a dark sense about them which will make the viewer fear them and
begin to make them more serious. As we are trying make the situation get taken
more seriously this will allow people to become more considerate and think about
what could happen if they are not careful and act oblivious to the situation. The
tracksuit we will use for the kidnappers will have a hood and it in which the actors will
wear up to create a sense of mystery about we kidnapped to girl as we are yet to
know who has taken the girls this will remind the viewer they must be aware of
everybody and will create mystery about there kidnapper as we cannot see anything
about him.
Costume- Gloves
 Gloves could be used by the people kidnapping the girls to show how the crime was
planned and they didn’t want to be found out for this crime through forensics. This
will show to the viewer how easy it is to commit a crime like this and get away with
out any evidence being left behind. We hope this will strike fear into our audience to
show them that this could happen to them and it could be made difficult for the
police to find them in some situations due to things like this some people are never
found again, showing to the viewer how serious the situation is and allowing them to
take it more serious as its applicable and could happen to them or their loved ones.
Costume- School Uniform
 By using the school uniform on the girls the were attacked it shows how young and
innocent they are showing the vulnerability of young girls. By using the school
uniform it will allow the viewers of the documentary to see the ruthlessness of the
attackers causing them to fear the attackers and become more aware of them as by
seeing this it will show to them that they attack anyone even people who are not on
the same physical or mental state to fight back. It will also make them more aware for
their loved once for example if they have children it will make them become more
protective over them until the attacks stop or the person is caught.
Props- Folders
 By using the folders once again it will remind the viewers of the
vulnerability of the girls and how ruthless the kidnappers were to
attack them as they are young girls who have not left school fully
yet so for some sort of attack to take place on the girls of this age it
shows to the viewers that their loved ones may not be safe and
themselves also as the attackers have already shown how they don’t
care who they attack although it is the first attack seen by the
people you can’t jump to conclusion and think that they will only be
going for young girls because of the two they attempted to
kidnapped.
Props- Weapons
 A fake weapon may be used with in the re-enactments to add extra fear factor onto
our documentary re-enactments and allow the audience to begin to fear the people
that have attacked the girl to give them a wake up call and make them realise the
danger of what they are doing. Although we want to add extra fear factor to scare the
audience in a way into caring more and become more considerate of what them or
their loved ones are doing, we don’t want to make this to unrealistic to the public
otherwise they wont take it serious and will ignore what being shown with in the
documentary making it have the opposite effect of what we intended it to have on
the viewers of our documentary, its important that we get our message across but
make sure its believable to the audience.
Props- Car
 We are wary of this idea as we know it will be a difficult idea to
organize as only a few of our friends drive but it is possible and it will
make our documentary more interesting for the viewer to watch by
having a get away vehicle in which we can try and build up awareness
for the public of this vehicle and also advice them to look out for it.
This adds more content for the audience to look into making it more
interesting for them to listen to, makes our re-enactment more realistic
because the kidnappers would of needed a vehicle to leave the park in
and gives them something to be aware of hook them into watching
more of the documentary.
Location- Park
 There is a local park near the area of our school that we may use as the location to
film the re-enactment of the attack we have already decided in our group meeting
that we need to use some more rural because this is where it is more likely for there
to be an attack because its quit and this will allow the criminals who have kidnap the
girls less chance of being caught due to lack of witnesses and difficulties finding
evidence. It is also the perfect place for the girls to be walking as we can say this is
their route to school and their local park when they have grown up giving them a
sense of safety until they were attacked.
Location- School Forest
 This location has also been put in as a location of where we can film our re-
enactments because it is also a rural area and is a stereotypical place for attacks like
this to take place down to the common iryness and mystery about forest’s E.g. people
hiding behind trees etc. By having this as our location it will be easily accessible for us
and will allow a more interesting and edge of you seat environment for the audience
to tune in on. We could use a number of edits etc. to make to forest have a strange
atmosphere about it and allow the viewer to make their own view up about whether
they believe the location is safe before they even see the attacks, it will also enable us
as the documentary makers to hook in and grip our viewers with a interesting re-
enactment which will make them want to watch on.
