2. What is journalism ethics?
•
Journalism ethics and standards consist of principles of ethics. Media
ethics is widely known to journalists as their professional code of
ethics these are some of the things that it consists of truthfulness,
accuracy, objectivity, impartiality and fairness. Broader ethical
systems in journalism ethics include the principle of ‘limitation of
harm’ this often involves the withholding of certain details from
reports such as the names of crime victims’ names or harm to
someone’s reputation.
3. Truthfulness
•
It is important when a journalist is
producing a story they must be
truthful with what they are producing
to the audience as lies may affect the
audience/viewers. People seek in to
the media for truthful news therefore
expect non biased and accurate
information so they know what is
happening nationally and locally
around the world.
•
From this I learnt in Journalism I must
always be truthful with my stories that
I produce.
4. Accuracy
• A media organization will be
judged on the accuracy and
reliability of the journalism it
produces.
• It must be well-sourced,
supported by strong evidence,
examined and tested and clear.
• Accuracy is essential if
journalism is to inform the public
debate.
