EUROPEAN LANGUAGE PORTFOLIO (ELP)
European Language Portfolio is a document that collects everything about the
language skills of a student and his ability to speak, write or understand.
The main objective of the ELP is to promote multilingüism, promote the
acquisition of language skills in several languages and promote experiences to
promote cultural interaction.
It is a personal document and is not required for now and try to facilitate citizen
mobility through the unification of evaluation criteria across Europe.
The components of the ELP are three:
• Language passport: describes linguistic competences and the most
significant linguistic and intercultural experiences and includes
information about partial and specific competences.
• Language biography: includes linguistic and cultural experiences (out of
the classroom dimension)
• Language dossier: it’s a collection of works about the skills of language
of the students.
Finally, the most important functions of the ELP are:
• Transparency in the learning process
• Develops reflection and self-assessment
• Responsibility for their own learning
• Lifelong learning
• Communicative approach
• Completes information provided by official diplomas
• Facilitates mobility.
