Nature of Language
• It uses symbols, which are
  sounds, gestures, or written characters that
  represent object, actions, events and ideas.

• It is meaningful and therefore can be
  understood by other users of that language.
Nature of Language
• It is generative, which means that the
  symbols of a language can be combined to
  produce an infinite number of messages.

• It has rules how symbols can be arranged.
Purpose of Teaching Language
• Teach the students to communicate
  effectively.
               - Speaking
                - Reading
                - Writing
               - Listening
