Technology can increase student achievement, improve critical thinking skills, and organize information more efficiently while lowering costs. It allows teachers to save time, communicate better, and give students access to information. Administrators can collect and analyze data to guide integration and implementation efforts. Research shows technology can boost standardized test scores by engaging students in simulations, decision-making, and peer-to-peer troubleshooting. While technology requires upfront investment, it aims to help schools meet rising Adequate Yearly Progress goals in a cost-effective manner.

Here I will present to the board that technology is quickly becoming a need more than a want for 21 st Century Learners. I will also address the fact that our district needs to continually increase student achievement percentages. I will also touch upon the increasing demands our staff here at the school is faced with every new day. (Lesson plans, grading, IEP’s, RTI, attendance, lunch counts, meeting standards and benchmarks, etc.)
This is my menu that will allow for easier navigation through the presentation.
Here I want to assure the board that if they continue to grant new technology, they can be confident it will be used in the district. I want to discuss the time constraint educators are currently faces with and that technology can ease these restraints in some situations. I also want to point out that administrators will be able to do their jobs more efficiently. The extra time created will only be a winning situation for all stakeholders.
I will talk about the many different software programs available such as Study Island and Accelerated Reader amongst others. I will let the board know that when these programs are used by the students, the students are the ones making decisions, not the teacher. Another point I want to make to the board is the fact that with technology comes troubleshooting problems. The more the students are around technology the more apt they are to solve these problems on their own. Once a student has experienced a minor problem, they would be able to quickly help another student solve the same problem. Everyone will become more tech savvy in the long run.
Schacter (1999) says students with access to a variety of technologies show positive gains in achievement on research constructed tests, standardized tests, and national tests. Kmitta and Davis’s (2004) research clearly shows technology has a positive impact on student success. I will through out a couple examples of statistics but not too many. I want the school board to realize the increasing demands of performing well on standardized tests and that technology can help increase our achievement results.
At this point of the presentation I would like to start to turn the this idea over to the board. I want them to realize our main goal is increasing student achievement, and technology clearly aides in this. I will discuss the importance of meeting AYP. I will also make them aware of the increasing AYP percentages. I want them to then think about the funding they might not receive if Adequate Yearly Progress is not met. I will stress that if we don’t keep up with the ever changing technologies, teachers and student could fall behind in their education.
On this final slide I will once again touch upon the main reasons for this presentation. I will ask if there are any questions regarding the presentation.
I will thank the board for their time and let them know their efforts are appreciated.
