2. Pre-hire Assessments (Online)
Gatto Associates, LLC, provides customized pre-hire assessments to
guide our clients in the talent acquisition and talent management
process. Our assessments serve as valuable tools when managers
must decide whether a particular candidate has the aptitude, ability,
personality and temperament to ensure success in a job and a good
cultural fit within their organizations. A better well-rounded picture
of a candidate emerges when managers couple pre-hire assessment
with the interview process. Equipped with better information,
managers are thus in a position to make better decisions.
Gatto Associates Pre-hire Assessments are customized to meet a
number of specific job requirements set forth by our clients. We
select the assessments that measure attributes directly related to a
specific job performance. Pre-hire assessments take the guesswork
out of hiring!
3. Background Information
for
Pre-hire Assessment
Categories of Assessment:
Tests - Self-reporting tests have right or wrong answers to assess
knowledge or performance (for example, a math problem is either
right or wrong).
Inventories - Identify preferences, mannerisms or style (for
example, there is no one right Leadership Style)
Types of Assessments
Aptitude - knowledge, ability to apply skills (math, language,
logic, and reasoning)
Cognitive Ability - analyze, solve problems and draw
conclusions: potential to learn and think
Personality - characteristics, job fit, emotional intelligence
Integrity - honesty, attitude toward theft, drugs, etc.
Psycho-motor - coordination and manual dexterity
Physical - capabilities (lifting)
In all of these types of assessments, a series of questions are asked
to assess the person’s:
• knowledge
• skills
• abilities
• other characteristics
4. Why Use Pre-hire Assessments?
Pre-hire assessment has becomes more prevalent in recent years
for a number of reasons:
• When using assessments, the hiring decision becomes more
objective and quantifiable.
• The hiring decision is defensible as a valid and reliable
predictor of success in the job position.
• The cost of bad hiring decisions ranges from 20% to 200% of a
given position’s salary. (HR Management, www.cvrdallas.com, March 12, 2010)
• Regular interviews alone have a predictive accuracy as low as
5% (Prehire assessments, K. Nash, Ezine Articles.com)
Supportive Data
Using a variety of assessments increases the probability of
selecting the right employee:
• Assessing behavioral traits alone - 38%
• Assessing behavioral traits AND thinking abilities - 54%
• Assessing behavioral traits AND thinking abilities AND
occupational interests – 66%
Outcomes of Using Pre-hire Assessments
• Put the right person in the right job - placement of greater
numbers of superior performers
• Reduce employee turnover and increase productivity
• Provide employees with needed training based on their
characteristic profile results
• Give managers insight into employee characteristics and styles
• Promote people into positions where they will succeed
5. Categories of On-Line Assessments
The Executive Level Customized Assessment is a comprehensive
format focusing on general acumen, intelligence, work-related
skills and abilities. The participant completes the assessments
online, which takes approximately three to four hours. Gatto
Associates then scores the assessments, writes a report, and
presents the findings via a conference call.
The Manager Level Assessment is a specific format indicating
general acumen, specialized skills, and abilities. The participant
completes the assessments online, which takes approximately two-
and-a-half to three hours. Gatto Associates then scores the
assessments, writes a report, and presents the findings via a
conference call.
We can customize the assessment process to any format you
would like, based on specific job responsibilities. We will submit
to you a 15-20 page report indicating individual results, job traits,
a “quick-hit” summary, best ways to work with this person, and
follow-up interview questions for you to utilize.
