Steps involved when moving into a new home

around moving into a new home. So much to
consider, so much to do, and at the end of it a
new beginning for the entire family.
Of course, moving can also become more of a
nightmare if you don’t follow the right steps or
forget to cover all your bases. The moving
process leaves a little bit of room for error, but
it’s still wise to follow all the important steps so
you don’t leave anything to chance and make
your move as exciting and stress-free as
possible.
3. The first step to moving into a
new home is to wrap up
whatever deal you’re working
on to acquire it. This might be
a real estate deal, or it may
just be signing a lease, but it
must get done and a firm
move-in date established
before you get things
underway.
Once all the details are worked
out and everything is signed,
all you have to do is formulate
your plan and put it into
action.
4. When you’re moving into a new home, it’s wise to start the planning process as
early as possible. You’ll know when you have to move in and it may seem like you
have a ton of time, but things will come up. Little delays that don’t seem like
much can all band together to form some major delays if you aren’t careful.
Any good moving plan has to include all facets of the process. This means
shutting off and turning on utilities, address changes, new school for kids if
necessary and arranging movers. Obviously, timing is one of the major concerns
when it comes to all of these things.
You have to be out your current place on a specific date and into the new home on
a specific date, which is likely the same date. And, you want the transition to be
as comfortable as possible, which means you want everything to just sort of fall
into place right where you need it to be.
Only you know how many years or decade’s worth of stuff you have that needs to
move. Figure that out early on in the planning process, then you can follow
through with the rest of the plan accordingly.
5. Whether you are moving around the corner or across the
country, moving boxes are going to be part of the
process. And it’s how you handle and organize those
moving boxes that will partially determine how
smoothly the move goes. The moving boxes are your
chance to keep it all organized or let it all fall into
disarray. Some of the rules you may want to follow with
moving boxes include:
1. Label all moving boxes clearly on the top and at least
two sides.
2. List what’s in the box and where it belongs on the
outside.
3. Keep boxes under 50lbs
4. Position heavier items in the bottom of moving boxes.
5. Use soft items like scarves, socks or towels to fill
crevices in boxes.
6. Ensure all boxes can be closed so the tops are flat.
6. Within all the boxes, it’s also a good idea to include an essentials box,
just in case the movers are late or get lost. An essentials box will
include bunch of daily essential items like:
◦ Flashlight
◦ Cans of soup
◦ Toothbrushes & toothpaste
◦ Shampoo and soap
◦ Toaster
◦ Kettle
◦ Garbage bags
◦ Tool kit
You may think of more things to include in your essentials box, or you
may use more than one box. Just be sure to pack the essentials box in
with you, so if the movers don’t get there for some reason, your
essentials will.
It’s also wise to throw some of those irreplaceable items like jewelry into
your essentials box and take it with you personally. You should have
trustworthy movers with a great track record, but things happen, and if
they do it’s best to have those things you can’t replace with you.
7. One step that you really shouldn’t ignore
is to make a complete inventory list of
everything that’s coming with you. To
simplify the process, list every box that
you’ve packed and then under the box, all
of its contents. You can use a numbering
system or any other kind of system that
works for you.
Bring the inventory list with you to the
new place on moving day, then if you’re
short some items, you can quickly tell if
you’re missing entire boxes or just the
odd item. If you start early enough and
don’t try to skip over any important steps,
you should be able to handle both the
business side and the physical side of
your move without any trouble at all.
