This is a simple two slide template designed and developed in Word using back-end developer programming to set and define fields within the document and to show how information and templates can be standardized for the use of internal employees to capture and present information without requiring a technical writer.
1. I designed this form to train internal employees how to create Technical Specifications on demand, quickly, accurately, and easily without having to know how to use a template. I identified repetitious and common information and set up drop-down selection boxes, check boxes, text, number, and combo entry fields, date picker fields, and bookmark and tagged all fields according to its own pedagogy based on document number and its location in document, just like the styles (i.e. the location “Dixie Terminal Center (108345)” location in the Header (Style Series P98) is a drop down selection box containing all three client locations and is changed once for this location’s Master template. Layout is easy to scan and has live links to vendor and other internal documents, and vendor’s website and also auto-adjusting picture and illustration fields that auto-size graphics to correct field size. Technical Specification’s Template Designed, Programmed, and Developed by Jona E. Kessans 2009 Custom styles designed for Parent Document and logically ordered by document sections (i.e. Header – series 98 styles, Body Styles – series 100 – 104 styles, and so on). Creating a Style Pedagogy keeps section styles together. Custom field programming for tagging and capturing entered information to include content specific field (number only, text/number combo, etc.). These are also bookmarked using series to create a complete cross-linked pedagogy. Electronic check boxes for easy form user completion. Drop-Down Fields to simplify minor changes in templates between locations. Also tagged and cross-linked
2. Illustrations and photos, edited and grouped in PhotoShop. These graphics are also tagged according to the Document pedagogy to easily link all photos and illustrations to documents. Notice the blue rubberband around panels on photo. Note: Both illustration and photo areas are fields that are set to auto-size selected content. Other vendor and internal linked resources also tagged and assigned a pedagogy that links this document to this specific Technical Specification’s document number. Revision update area so all changes and reviews, can be logged. Includes date picker field for easily selecting date and drop-down change description box.
