2. Media institutions are organisations that are responsible for the production, marketing, distribution or regulation of media texts. IPC Media is the publisher of NME. BBC publishes magazines, has radio stations, television channels, websites and films. Future media is the publisher of Metal hammer and Classic Rock.

3. There are big and small publishers, each have advantages and disadvantages. Big publishers Advantages – already have experience in your type of magazine, well known, good reputation. Disadvantages – they might not spend as much time on your product, your product will be seen as second best, your product will be overshadowed by the more popular existing products. Small publishers Advantages – they will be able to focus on your product, there’s less chance there’ll already be a product of your genre out that’s published by them. Disadvantages – your magazine might not get as much publicity, these publishers have had less experience with your genre of magazine.

4. I’d like a smaller publisher to publish my magazine because I think that there will be more chance that it will have high sales figures than if it was published by a big publisher. If it was done by a bigger one then i think it will just become in the background and it wouldn’t be given as much credit as the popular existing products get. Another disadvantage of a big publisher is that it will be hard to convert the current audience of popular magazines of my genre to read mine new product instead. I’d like to use ‘imagine publishing’ to publish my magazine because they don’t have a magazine of my genre out at the moment there’s a niche in the market for mine.

5. Kerrang! doesn’t just have a magazine out. They have a radio station, a TV channel, a website, a tour. They have sponsors which pay them to get their product advertised. Advertising on websites or in magazines brings in another form of income for them which helps profit the publishers.
