2. Summary of Orientation Week During Orientation Week, I became more comfortable in the hospital setting. I really enjoyed the tour of Via Christi St. Joes hospital by Kim Frankenburg. She made sure we thoroughly knew each unit and floor of the hospital, and provided us with many interesting details. The speaker Laurie Labarca, Chief Operating Officer, gave us an informative overview of the many health professions involved in the hospital setting. She was very helpful and offered to advocate in our discerning of health careers as much as she possibly could.
9. Handwashing summary and pictures Going to SEAS, TOP school, All Saints, and Clark Elementary school for hand washing presentations was very interesting. It was cool to see how the younger kids reacted to seeing the “germs” on their hands, although there wasn’t much reaction in the older kids. Making up catchy songs, skits, and posters was an easy way to teach them about a healthy and germ-free lifestyle.
18. A nurse midwife is an advanced practice registered nurse who has had training in obstetrics and works under the supervision of an obstetrician. Some can have their own private practice, but most work in hospitals, family planning centers, and the public health service. This career interests me because I love children and babies and think it would be a neat job to have the opportunity to be apart of delivering and caring for them.

20. Psychologists study the behavior and actions of people to understand, explain, and change their behavior patterns. They also provide counseling and therapy to people with emotional, learning, and behavior problems. They work in schools, clinics, hospitals, and private practice. This career interests me because I like helping people with their problems and try to give the best advice I possibly can.
23. Social workers help people and their families adjust to problems in their lives, most which can’t be changed so they help the people accept the situation. This job interests me because I want to help those in poor situations and do my best to help them.
25. Sonographers, also known as ultrasound technologists, work with equipment that directs very high frequency sound waves into the body tissues to produce images or pictures of internal organs, diseased masses, and fetuses. These images are then used by physicians to diagnose and treat patients. This career interests me because I like learning about equipment and technology.

27. Final reflection Overall, St. Gianna Catholic Health Academy has been a good over-view of the hospital setting. It can really help you decide if the medical field is for you or not, especially the rotations and shadowing nurses. Seeing and experiencing different patients and diseases shows you what the health career is all about. Via Christi St. Joe Hospital Via Christi St. Francis Hospital
28. Other projects We also did volunteer work at the Wichita Country Club. We watched for any of the golfers to make a hole-in-one. If they did, they got the opportunity of winning a new car.
