2. American Revolution
Over 3,000 miles
away from their
home country of
Britain, the 13
colonies made
many of their own
decisions about
government.
3. Britain’s Reaction to the
Colonies
Britain didn’t like
that the 13 colonies
were gaining
control, so they
began taxing goods
that the colonists
needed in order to
live in the new world. The taxation of tea caused a really
big uproar in the 13 colonies. This
uproar was known as “The Boston
Tea Party”
4. Causes of Revolution
The American
Revolution begins due to

7. The First Pioneers
Pioneers, or people
who first settle a

west beyond the
Mississippi River
into the Louisiana
Territory. This
territory was owned
by the French.
8. The Louisiana Purchase
Napoleon Bonaparte wanted to
sell all of the Louisiana
Territory.
He killed the king of France and
was fighting in a war with Great
Britain and needed money for
the war.
In April 1803, the United States
agreed to pay $15 million for the
territory.
9. Lewis and Clark
Led a group into the
Louisiana Territory.
They found that it
covered over 828,000
square miles.
The United States paid
less than 3 cents an
acre for the huge
territory. We now pay
over $10,000 for an
acre of land.
