            Basketball Brings Ichabods to China:

P       erhaps no country has more
        potential for growth and
        modernization than China,
and perhaps no other country has
more history and culture. With more
than one billion people, China seems
to be torn between keeping its history
and culture while looking to the West
for modernization.
    The Washburn men’s basketball
team and a group from the WU

                             WICHITA FALLS,Texas - It may have taken three minutes extra to do it, but
                             the Mavericks completed a seven-year journey by winning their first national
                             soccer championship at the Midwestern State University Soccer Field.
                                  Sophomore forward Brandie Beale blasted a high shot over the goal-
                             keeper and into the back of the net 3:03 into overtime to defeat Seattle
                             Pacific, 2-1 in the 2005 national championship game.
                                                                            It was the Mavs' fourth straight

About the Runnin’ Rebels
    UNLV made its second straight trip to the NCAA tournament last year and won the Mountain West tournament for the
second straight year. Head coach Lon Kruger, who played with WU’s Bob Chipman at Kansas State from 1971-73, returns
three starters and seven letterwinners from last year’s 27-8 team (12-4 MWC). Senior guard Wink Adams led the team last
year with 16.9 points a game and an 85 percent effort from the free throw line.

    The 103rd season of Washburn basketball begins November 15 when the Ichabods host Colorado Christian in the first
day of the Ichabods Classic at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena. WU will host Central Methodist November 16 in the final Ichabods

  • 6. P erhaps no country has more potential for growth and modernization than China, and perhaps no other country has more history and culture. With more than one billion people, China seems to be torn between keeping its history and culture while looking to the West for modernization. The Washburn men’s basketball team and a group from the WU Alumni Association experienced firsthand China’s ever-changing photo submitted by Susie Hoffmann landscape on a 10-day trip to China in August. It was the Mavs' fourth straight trip to the final four and their second national title match.
